Role Playing Teaching Blog – Hello! I’m looking for a dark cosplay of Noah…

Hello! I want to cosplay Noah’s black military uniform from Xenoblade Chronicles 3, but I’m not sure how to pattern the coat. The sweater and pants wouldn’t be a problem, but there are parts of the jacket set that really bore me. Any advice for someone new to patterns would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

    hello!

This appears to be based on the Inverness Coat, like the one Sherlock Holmes is traditionally depicted wearing.

I think the part you’re having trouble with is the cape component, which is exactly what the Inverness cape pattern will do for you. The front needs to be open, which is easily modified from almost any coat pattern that has a center front opening (even a double-breasted jacket can be easily modified to have a center front opening), and it goes through the waistband in the front.

The cape component will be the same as your pattern, but you may need to shorten its length. It looks like the coat has a double cape – I will shorten the cape pattern further and shape it into that shape, then sew it to the longer lower cape around the neck. When you sew the collar, the edges of the collar should be hidden.

All that’s left is basically changing shapes like hems and adding surface embellishments.

I hope this helps! Good luck:]
