It’s no secret that Robert Englund has previously expressed his intention to give up his iconic role as Freddy Krueger, the famous killer from A Nightmare on Elm Street and all of its sequels. However, Englund was recently asked to return to the role in 2018 for a guest appearance on The Goldbergs. But this time around, Englund has ruled out playing Freddie again.
“I can’t play him anymore. I’m too old,” Englander said in a recent interview with Bloody Disgusting. “I don’t have Freddy in my heart anymore.”
Englund specifically noted that he could no longer perform any fight scenes or quick action in Freddy’s costume. Despite skipping the remake of the original 2010 film, the actor did express his willingness to make a cameo in a future A Nightmare on Elm Street remake. He’s particularly keen on making a cameo in the remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street: Fallen Warriors.
“If they were to reboot a third installment of Dream Warriors, I’d love to be asked, I think it’s the most popular movie in the series,” Englund said. “It would be fun to play one of the doctors. The great Priscilla Pointer, Amy Irving’s mother, is in that movie. Maybe I could play her role as a very cynical male doctor.” Audience cameo wink, but I don’t do that. I don’t believe everyone has the same dream. It’s a tradition in remakes, especially in horror films, to give actors from the original a little cameo, so I think that would be fun. .
The only possibility Englund has left to return the character is if Freddy returns in animated form. But for now, there are no plans to reboot or cartoonize the series. For now, fans will just have to be satisfied with the new restoration of A Nightmare on Elm Street , which is now available digitally. The physical 4K Ultra HD version will be released on October 15th.
