A few years ago, Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld bumped into Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige at San Diego Comic-Con, where he got tantalizing tidbits about the then-mysterious character. Deadpool 3.
Feige told Liefeld that his desk is currently filled with the writer-artist’s work, particularly Deadpool Legion – a team of wacky real-life Deadpools, including canine ” Dog Pool” and the female “Ladypool”. This was the first time Liefeld became aware that these characters might appear in what is now known as ” Deadpool and Wolverinewhich starred Peggy in her breakout role as a pug-Chinese crested mix who won Britain’s Ugliest Dog contest.
“You can’t resist Dogpool,” Liefeld recalled thinking after chatting with Fitch. “I feel like Dogpool is the next level up after Groot and Rocket Raccoon. I’d even say, ‘The marketing alone is worth it.’
A year ago he got another clue Deadpool and Wolverine, when Marvel’s business department called him to let him know there was an Easter egg involving him. In one scene, there’s a plastic surgery shop called “Liefeld’s Just Feet” – a nod to an internet joke that mocked the way Liefeld painted his feet.
“When the Marvel business people called me, I was laughing hysterically,” Liefeld said. “They laughed too.”
The joke comes after Domino (Zazie Beetz) mentions Liefeld’s foot-painting abilities. Deadpool 2 (2018), and the 2016 film kicks off with the creator himself sitting in a bar.
He recently traveled to New York to attend the premiere of the new film, touring some of the attractions and staying at the Langham Fifth Avenue Hotel in New York. For Liefeld, Deadpool and Wolverine It was the character’s pinnacle moment and a noteworthy moment in his decades-long relationship with Wade Wilson. The film coincides with his retirement from writing and drawing the final Deadpool book, Deadpool team uprolling out next month.
“I have nothing bad to say about the character,” Liefeld said. “The last adventure I went on with him was just so out of character. It was the furthest thing from me trying to be cool. It was the furthest thing from me trying to make him pop. It’s just a weird story, But I feel like it’s the right vibe.
