Hello, dear readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade roundup for August 22, 2024. It’s Thursday, but we don’t even have a dozen games worth mentioning today. Even among the ones we had, nothing jumped out. Of course, it’s August now. Things will look up soon. But even at this time of year, it was still strange to see such a dry Thursday. At least sales are healthy. Let’s take a look at it all!

Jules Verne – Fantasy Shapes ($14.99)
In this adventure game, play as Jules Verne and enter a world born of his own imagination. He’s going to join forces with Captain Nemo to try to fend off an evil force that’s determined to destroy all imagination, and I think it’s going to be really bad. Solve puzzles, engage in conversations and enjoy the story. It’s an interesting premise and an important part of this type of combat.
Rise of Eternal War ($9.99)
prequel story eternal risewhich looks like a basic defense style game to me. Assemble your team and deploy them against the enemy with limited resources. It seems pretty good for what it is, even if it’s not very original. There are over forty levels to play, which will keep you busy for a few days at least.
Based on my last email ($6.29)
One of the stress relief games. You are an office worker and you have a big hammer. You can destroy almost everything in the office. Go for it. Play the ten-level campaign mode, or enjoy infinite chaos mode as you wish. The affordable price is perfect for the experience on offer.
Ring Engraver ($14.99)
This is a choice-based narrative adventure game where you choose from nine different characters and try to survive the journey to the Ring Sculptor’s base. In addition to making choices at different moments, there are also statistics to manage, dice rolls to try your luck, and a plethora of endings to discover.
Algor – Castle of Kronos ($8.99)
It is a side-scrolling action platformer with a game-like style Castlevania or choose. You play as a sword-wielding warrior dedicated to defeating evil. Or at least I think that’s the story. All I know is that there’s a guy named Cronus and his castle has to be captured. A decent game, backed by a very lively soundtrack. I wouldn’t yell it in the street, but it might tickle people.
Atalakshi ($4.99)
An affordable Metroidvania-style game starring a mummy. It’s definitely rough around the edges, but for the price you probably won’t mind. At least I admire the protagonist of the novel. Sad about the rope collision detection though.
Arcade Files Ninja Kids ($7.99)
Taito’s 1990 beat ’em up action game starring puppet ninjas is the latest entry Arcade Archives release. Up to four players can join in the fun via local multiplayer, which is probably the best way to enjoy the game. Even on its own, the quirky tone makes this game fun. The game mechanics aren’t as rigorous as similar games from Capcom or Konami, but there’s something charming about its janky nature.
Toyoshi Story: The Witch Arrives ($29.99)
This is a visual novel with some simulation elements. Maybe calling it a visual novel isn’t appropriate because of these elements? Please forgive me if my choice of words is inappropriate. Your character ends up homeless on a mysterious island and soon meets a witch with her own problems. They decided to work together, and eventually several others joined them. Can this ragtag group survive and thrive on Toyoki Island? Just play it and you’ll find out! I should write a boxed copy, I swear.
EGGCONSOLE Star Trader PC-8801mkIISR ($6.49)
When you think of Nihon Falcom, you think of…shooters? Well, maybe not. But this has happened in the past, and as you might expect, it’s not orthodox by any means. There’s a mix of adventure gameplay and shooting action, and your skill at handling transactions will determine how much money you have available for upgrades. Of course, this is all in Japanese. Egg control etc. If I thought it would even be playable remotely for someone who doesn’t understand the language, I’d be quick to comment.

That’s all for today, friends. We’ll be back tomorrow with the rest of the week’s releases, as well as all the sales and major news released on the day. There have been a lot of thunderstorms here recently. It was hot and sunny during the day and stormy at night. Very strange and not conducive to laundry plans. Oh well. Hope you all have an exciting Thursday, and as always, thank you for reading!
