As for how this ties into the larger DCU, Gunn confirmed that no other show or movie, past or present, needs to be watched to understand Biocommando. While these stories may have some homages or Easter eggs, they may just be references rather than plot points.
Regarding the larger DCU connections, the panel discussion turned to other DCU movies and the future of the interconnected universe. Rick Flag Sr., played by Frank Grillo, has been confirmed to play an important and integral role in the future development of the DCU. he has appeared in superman and in peacemaker Season 2.

I’ve always been fascinated by his filmmaking style and his evolution from writer to director visionary. I hope that under his guidance, other directors and producers can reach the same heights.
