Report says Apple’s artificial intelligence features will be late

Apple Intelligence may not be available when the new iPhone is released in September this year.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, citing people familiar with the matter, said Apple now plans to roll out artificial intelligence capabilities in the form of a software update “before October.” The reason is as you’d expect: Apple needs more time to fix bugs and ensure it’s supported by third-party developers.

Apple announced its artificial intelligence features during WWDC in June, saying they were “deeply integrated” into iOS 18, iPadOS 18 and macOS Sequoia. But when iOS 18 and other new operating systems launched in beta in July, almost all the new features were missing, including a smarter Siri, an AI text-editing feature called Rewrite, and an AI-generated image called Genmoji. picture.

Mix and match speed of light

To be fair, Apple never explicitly said it would release AI in September; the company said Apple Intelligence would be available in beta this fall, with some features coming “next year.” However, there are reports that the company plans to offer at least some of the features alongside the launch of the new iPhone, which usually happens in the first half of September.

It currently appears that Apple will launch iOS 18, iPadOS 18 and macOS Sequoia in September, and then introduce AI features in later updates. Likewise, the first iPhone 16 models may lack artificial intelligence capabilities when they start shipping to consumers.

The report does claim that Apple will make Apple Intelligence available in its developer betas, iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18.1, as soon as this week.

While all of this is unofficial and unconfirmed, Apple’s AI features do have official delays in Europe. In June, the company said it would not launch Apple Intelligence in Europe (possibly not until 2025) due to regulatory concerns.
