The PC version of Red Dead Redemption has reappeared, raising hopes that PC users will finally be able to experience John Marston’s story.
The last time we saw a mention of a PC version of Rockstar’s classic western was in Rockstar’s own launcher. Some backend code was discovered indicating that the game is “now playable on PC.” This “marketing string” is the same style Rockstar typically uses for Grand Theft Auto V.
Now, another mention of the port has surfaced, this time strangely on the PlayStation Store. Game’s store page updated with PC-specific details, seemingly by accident
“Experience the epic Western adventure that defined a generation—now for the first time on PC,” the update reads.
“Red Dead Redemption features the full single-player experience of both games, including bonus content from the Game of the Year Edition, and features all the upgrades from the 2023 console version as well as PC-specific enhancements, including support for higher resolutions and frame rates, multiple monitors and other accessories, as well as spatial surround sound.
The store has since been edited to remove all mention of the PC version, but not before a number of helpful online citizens managed to grab screenshots.
The fine folks at Eurogamer also managed to grab a screenshot before the page was edited.
The port mentioned on the store page is last year’s release of Red Dead Redemption, which ran natively on PS4 and Switch for the first time. This is a fairly barebones re-release of the classic game, powered by the 60FPS mode that was later added to the PlayStation version.
While it’s a puzzling error, the PSN Store’s unexpected update with incorrect information seems to be strong evidence that a PC port is finally happening, a full 14 years after the game first came out. After all, a complete PC description wouldn’t happen naturally without someone actually writing it, and no one could write it incorrectly. So unless someone manages to hack into Rockstar, or someone at Rockstar has a sick sense of humor, I can safely assume we’ll see Red Dead Redemption on PC this year.
