I had a great conversation with the legendary Harold Perrineau before Season 2 of FROM began, and he told me that about Boyd, “He has to do things this season that he’s never done before. past things.
What I can say for certain is that I believe we’ve reached this point in the story because Boyd has to make an impossible choice.
One that will haunt him for a long time to come.
The whole few hours of the night are usually scarier.
They become less about legends and trying to put the pieces together and more about people trying to survive to see the sunrise the next day.
It was sunset and early evening, and Tabitha did everything she could to stop the first responders and Officer Acosta from killing her and themselves.
It probably doesn’t matter if Tabitha just got into a car accident, because fantastical stories about towns you can’t leave and monsters that appear in the night only make sense after people see them.
As the night wears on, you can feel Tabitha getting more and more desperate.
It’s been a minute since the first episode of season 1, and I can’t remember how long it took someone to get to town from seeing the tree.
Obviously, this takes a while.
Incredibly, Tabitha was on her way to town when the collision happened, and no one except Matthew’s family knew about it because Thomas the Monster once again called the residence to warn Ethan and pose a threat to Jim.
By now, the monsters have developed a strong interest in being as evil as possible. The shift can be felt in the town, but why now? What happened that made them basically go nuclear?
The town is feeling more desperate than ever. Is it the hope of those early years that now gives the monsters courage and courage?
This is something to think about.
But before nightfall and another bloody night, Victor and Sara spend their fortress story time hearing that the contents of the briefcase that Victor dug up are just another devastating reveal and a reminder People Victor is so ingrained in the bones of this place.
Victor spent almost his entire life in this hellish place, and he still has some morbid mementos. But what he doesn’t have is all the memories.
Years have passed since the events of that bloody night and time, and repressing a lot of trauma in order to survive has undoubtedly put Victor in a place where he doesn’t remember everything that happened.
But Victor is super aware, perceptive and smart. He could see that the town was changing in ways he hadn’t seen in years, and the changes in that town were not signs of progress or positivity.
A change in the existence of an orchestrated nightmare could mean it’s preparing to get worse.
Imagine a little boy walking down a street full of corpses and taking something from the corpses as a memorial to the dead because he couldn’t bury all of them himself.
FROM A lot can happen at any given time. We have seen how evil things get there. We really just saw Kenny lose his remaining parents in that place.
But because it’s not cutting edge, it happens so far back in time that we only see bits and pieces; we forget what Victor has been through—the horrors he’s experienced and continues to experience.
It’s heartbreaking to hear him talk about these items and almost recall them. Scott McCord always does a great job in this role, but perhaps none more so than when Victor tells something that mixes joy and sorrow.
Victor has mentioned Christopher before and how he changed after seeing the symbol that Jed is now obsessed with, but we dig a little deeper into the man and now Victor has to find Jasper and FROM has to change It must be scarier than it is now.
Do we have to add a ventriloquist on top of everything? This show was determined to weave every one of my fears into its narrative, and I could complain, but I was so engrossed that I was able to get through it.
That’s how strong I am.
The search for Jasper may hit a snag or be delayed when Victor realizes his father has now joined the chat.
These monsters are so smart they know how to trick unsuspecting people and those first responders are dead as soon as they step out of the ambulance.
There will likely be a lot of discussion about Acosta after this episode, and there should be. I guess she was trying to lighten the mood for Tabitha, who (reasonably) warned everyone, but cuffing her in an ambulance and then running away when the monster started chasing her was just horrific.
Without Jim, Tabitha becomes an easy target, and eventually Boyd and Randall come to the rescue.
A quick exchange between Boyd and Randall on the bus before everything gets crazy clearly foreshadows what’s to come. Still, it’s another small peek into Cicada’s crazy survivor and comatose state.
Julie is not okay, Marielle is not okay, where is Randall? He put on a pretty big front, hiding behind the same bravado he’d entered with, but he was petrified. He basically admits it to Boyd; he’s perhaps the most vulnerable person we’ve ever met.
Randle was a lot of things, and not a lot of them were good, but he helped in different situations.
He did it in the first episode of Season 3, and he does it again here, placing himself among the monsters to help. What did he get for it?
I’m a part of Team Boyd all day long, every day. I think he has the weight of the entire world on his shoulders and he wakes up every day trying to keep an entire mini-civilization going with grudging optimism.
Being a leader of the people means motivating and managing a variety of personalities. But it also means making tough decisions, making sacrifices, and prioritizing the needs of many over your own.
The monsters are determined to take down Boyd by any means necessary until he has exhausted his last vestiges of hope, change, and determination.
They asked him to spy on Tianchen, and now they asked him to sacrifice Randall.
Boyd sacrificed one to save four.
We’ve seen Boyd have to make some decisions that others weren’t willing to make, but this might be the worst yet, mostly because you can tell it’s not going to be a trade-off like the monster turns out to be Like this.
All I know is that the monster is letting Randall live because that would break Boyd. Keep Randall alive as a walking and talking reminder that he was more willing to exchange his death will with Boyd than his dead counterpart. That’s the truth.
Even if you can rationalize in your head that you have no choice because he has no choice, it doesn’t change the way Boyd feels every time he sees Randall.
Where’s Randall? I don’t even want to know how he would feel now.
What a terrible situation this is, but it’s also another example of how bleak and scary things can get.
Speaking of darkness, we also see another casualty of Becky, who was hit when Acosta aimed at the monster, but missed.
Acosta must now find a way to fit into the small town as he promptly kills a man and causes a lot of chaos to ensue. As a police officer, will she try to position herself as the new “leader” because she is a law enforcement officer?
More importantly, would anyone care if she did this?
Whenever someone new comes in, it’s fun to see what role they play, and Acosta should be interesting to watch. Henry does, of course, and so does the level of trust he and Tabitha have in other people.
You could see the shocked look on everyone’s face when they saw Tabitha. She has a lot of explaining to do, but knowing the show, everyone prefers to keep secrets rather than sit around and compare notes.
Tabitha escaped the town, returned to the town, and lived to tell the tale, which should be story time for all. But will it be?
unresolved issues
- The subtle ways people drag each other around in this show are interesting. It’s unintentionally funny that Victor invites Sarah to this gruesome property unveiling because she’s the scariest person there if things get too gruesome.
- It’s a step in the right direction for Jed to finally come clean about his vision. He needed to release some of his inner fears.
- Ethan and Julie’s conversation was so sweet. Julie is obviously different and I like that Ethan pushes a little and lets her know he wants to be there for her.
- Correct me if I’m wrong, but this was the second time Elgin saw the horrible lady sitting next to Tilly, right?
- Craving for rotten food is one thing (weird), but reaching deep into the body to drink blood? Fatima is pregnant with a monster child and I don’t expect her to hide it anymore.
- Kenny can no longer leave town for the night because diabolical things keep happening.
- Have you seen “Dead Silence”? Every time I see the ventriloquist dummy I don’t think about that movie. Jasper was about to become a threat. I can feel it.
It was definitely an hour to remember!
Tabitha and Henry have arrived in town. Victor is looking for a talking puppet. Boyd’s progress was even greater than usual. Randall is alive and angry.
We’re well into the middle of the season, and things have never been more uncertain and grim. What might the world hold next for these people?
Let me know in the comments how you feel about this and what’s next!
