Razer demonstrated a bundle New products from RazerCon last week. Believe me, it was a hectic two hours between dinner tables. But the BlackWidow V4 Pro 75% keyboard was one of the releases that didn’t impress me until after the event. Even though a full week has passed today, I’m still harassing my coworker by showing him all the photos on my phone.
BlackWidow V4 Pro 75% is a wireless hot-swappable gaming keyboard equipped with an OLED screen. Hot-swappable means you can replace all of its switches and keycaps if you want to personalize it. This isn’t Razer’s first hot-swappable mechanical keyboard. This keyboard’s predecessor, the BlackWidow V4, was the company’s first gaming keyboard with hot-swappable keys, although it was a wired model. Razer’s innovation in OLED displays has not surpassed that of competing gaming peripheral brands. SteelSeries Apex Pro already provides this functionality.
Razer’s new keyboard also features its proprietary HyperSpeed and 4K Hz HyperPolling technology. The Chroma RGB on this unit is pretty standard on many other Razer keyboards. You get illumination for each key and underlighting on both sides. You can customize your lighting and create multiple lighting profiles using the Razer Chroma app. The soft, plush faux leather wrist rest is generously padded and magnetically attaches to the bottom of your device.
The OLED display sits next to the command dial, allowing you to scroll through settings and display actions on the screen. You can use the dial and monitor to quickly check PC or keyboard-related statistics, and dynamically change keyboard settings such as polling rate or RGB color profiles.
BlackWidow V4 Pro 75% offers multipoint connectivity, allowing you to wirelessly connect up to three devices simultaneously, even while charging. However, you probably won’t come into contact with the outlet very often. Enabling Power Save Mode on the device turns off the OLED display and RGB, and suspends communication with the Razer Synapse companion app. In this mode, it can apparently last up to 2,100 hours before you’re connected to an outlet again.
Razer’s latest keyboard comes with its proprietary Orange Tactile Switches Gen-3, but can be replaced with 3-pin and 5-pin mechanical switches. The keyboard was pre-sent to a few YouTube users whose channel is about customizing keyboards, and some of them attended the demo to show off their final results. It’s very interesting to look at the designs of this collection. The endless personalization possibilities offered by hot-swappable keyboards are huge.
The Razer BlackWidow V4 Pro 75% is now available for pre-order on the Razer website and Razer stores. Retail price is $300 and will be available on September 24th.
