Questlove will direct the documentary Earth, Wind & Fire. This feature seeks to examine the enduring legacy, cultural impact and lasting work of this iconic group.
As part of the project, the Grammy- and Oscar-winning filmmaker will have exclusive access to the band’s archive of visual, audio and written material, as well as the estate of Maurice White and the band, according to a press release Institutional support.
“After being baptized in the Joyous River in the heart of Africa in this mighty unit, I got to know them, I got to know us, and more importantly, I got to know and rediscover myself in the process,” Questlove said in the statement. Earth, Wind & Fire band members Philip Bailey, Verdine White and Ralph Johnson shared in their own joint statement: “We are looking forward to this in-depth tour of our band and are delighted to have Questlove directing the documentary.”
this Summer of Souls The director will also produce the documentary alongside Dave Sirulnick and Samantha Grogin of RadicalMedia; KB White of Broken Halo Entertainment, son of late band leader Maurice White; and Arron Saxe of Kinfolk Management + Media (in partnership with Sony Music Vision). FIFTH SEASON is financing the film and will handle its sales alongside WME.

The group’s decades-long career has made them one of the most critically and commercially successful pop groups of all time. They have sold more than 90 million records, had 11 consecutive albums go gold or platinum, and won six Grammy Awards. Their discography includes hits such as “September,” “Reasons” and “Shining Star.”
Zarah Zohlman and Shawn Gee of Two One Five Entertainment, the production company founded by Questlove and The Roots member Black Thought, will serve as executive producers, as will RadicalMedia’s Jon Kamen, Cheo Hodari Coker and Amos Newman.
