Tri City Con takes place in Grand Island and features comic books, original art, toys and trading cards.
Obviously, this isn’t something we typically include in comics roundups, but we’d be wrong if we didn’t mention a comics event, even if it’s in a different part of the country. Having said that, this scam was founded last year by Wes Tjaden and Gabriel Perez. Tri-City Con brings fans of pop culture, comics, anime, games, and more together in Nebraska’s Tri-City area (Grand Island, Kearney, and Hastings). Tjaden, owner of The Comic Cop in Grand Island, and Perez, a renowned Nebraska artist whose career spans mural art and publishing comic book covers, created the convention to celebrate the fandom and give back to their communities.
The inaugural event, held on March 30, 2024 at the Aurora Cooperative Pavilion in Grand Island, attracted more than 2,000 attendees and raised more than $1,300 for the Grace Cancer Foundation. This local charity provides financial and emotional support to cancer patients and their families, offering resources such as gas cards, mental health services and assistance with household expenses. Both founders are deeply committed to making a difference in their communities, combining a love of pop culture with a meaningful cause.
We have to keep the spotlight on this event, so if you’re nearby or just want to support a good cause and local comic events, check out this page!
