Max’s upcoming epic sci-fi series Dune: Prophecy will tell a story that takes place 10,000 years before the first event dune novel.
The series tells the story of the Harkonnen sisters as they fight against forces that threaten the future of humanity and establish a legendary sect called the Bene Gesserit. Emily Watson and olivia williams will play Valya Harkonnen and Tula Harkonnen, the powerful Harkonnen sisters who hold power within the sorority.
Watson recently spoke to Total Film (via GamesRadar), teasing the HBO series’ “moral complexity” while dismissing comparisons to another big sci-fi series. She explained:
“It’s built around the Bene Gesserit. That’s the Sisterhood. That’s one of the central figures in it, and all the universes they control, and their power… it’s kind of surprising People are fascinated.
Watson said they remain “a bit of a badass family” that will be “very human and complex” and “less extreme” than their cinematic counterparts thousands of years in the future. This all amounts to Dune: Prophecy Blending ancient lore and world-building with the opportunity to explore more unknown territories. For Watson, this was a boon that allowed her to showcase her talents. Watson said:
“It’s very exciting, but also very happy to be entering this world because I know I have the skills to make everything feel real. It’s a very interesting palette because it’s not childish… it’s not Like Star Wars.
Dune: Prophecy The series will air on HBO in the US in November and on NOW TV and Sky in the UK later this year.
