A feature film about the life of Queen Latifah is in development, the first of a series of hip-hop biopics to be independently financed by Flavor Unit Entertainment, Westbrook Studios and Jesse Collins Entertainment.
The film will follow the rise of Latifah, a performer who became a rapper, singer and actor who won an Emmy, Grammy and Golden Globe. HarborView Equity Partners is financing the film, along with a future biopic focusing on the iconic hip-hop performer.
It has not yet been announced who will write or direct the Latifah project.
The film’s producers include Latifah and Shakeem Compere of Flavor Unit Entertainment, Will Smith and Miguel Melendez of Westbrook Studios, Jesse Collins of Jesse Collins Entertainment and Dionne Harmon. The latter is the company behind the mini-series New story and bobby brown story Both air on BET.

Latifah released her debut studio album in 1989 at the age of 19 and became known for singles such as 1993’s Grammy Award-winning “UNITY.” single life and equalizer and features like chicago, beauty shop and girls trip.
