Cyberpunk-themed gaming ecosystem Pixelverse is launching MemeBattle, a tactical deck-building game that incorporates popular cryptocurrency memes into playable characters.
The game will debut in January and feature a roster of meme-worthy mascots from multiple blockchain projects. In the game, players will be inspired by the famous Internet and encryption culture to form a character team and participate in strategic battles.
The game will be released on Base, Coinbase’s Ethereum layer 2 platform, which was chosen for its scalability, low transaction costs and built-in wallet integration to create a more convenient experience for players.
What is MemeBattle?
MemeBattle centers around creating a squad of crypto-meme-inspired characters and battling opponents for rewards.
The game’s initial lineup includes mascots from the Base project, such as Brett, Toshi, Dog in Me, Keyboard Cat, and Mochi. Other blockchain-based characters including Pudgy Penguins, Turbo and Mew will also appear.
Although the game is classified as a deck-building game, the characters will not be presented in the form of traditional cards. Pixelverse hasn’t revealed the exact game format yet, but says it will move away from traditional card mechanics.
Growing blockchain product portfolio
Pixelverse gained recognition earlier this year with PixelTap, a Telegram mini-game that appealed to a wide audience. MemeBattle is the next step in its development process to expand the company’s presence in the blockchain-based gaming space.
The initiative has received funding from Gate.io’s $50 million Meme Fund, which supports initiatives focused on memes and community-driven content in the crypto space. In addition, investments from Delphi Ventures and Mechanism Capital also provided financial support for its development.
MemeBattle launches with 10 characters and aims to combine elements of internet culture with tactical gameplay. While more details about the game will likely be released upon its debut, it marks an ongoing experiment at the intersection of cryptocurrency, gaming, and cultural trends.
