This year marks the 20th anniversary of “The Incredibles,” director Brad Bird’s ode to the Fantastic Four, James Bond and more. In the twenty years since, only one sequel has been released – 2018’s “The Incredibles 2.” But at D23, Pixar confirmed that “The Incredibles 3” is in development, and Bird will serve as director like the first two films.
Pixar’s Pete Docter made the announcement at the end of the studio presentation, but he didn’t provide any other details. Docter didn’t even reveal if the movie had a release date, but it was clearly well-received news at the show.
It took Bird 14 years to start work on the second film, so he was never in a rush to complete the trilogy. There’s also the question of whether Incredibles 3 will be Bird’s next film. In 2022, Bird signed a deal with Skydance to direct “Ray Gunn,” the sci-fi animated film he created more than thirty years ago. The film is one of Bird’s most passionate projects, so it seems likely it will be released first unless Skydance decides not to proceed.
Pixar also revealed that “Toy Story 5” will be released during D23, and this is just the beginning of Disney Night. Marvel has debuted a new trailer for Agatha All the Way, while only D23 fans will get to see exclusive trailers for Daredevil: Rebirth and Hearts of Steel. The cast of “Fantastic Four: The First Step” sent a message from the film showing off the Human Torch’s costume in the movie. Star Wars fans will be pleased with the previews for Skeleton Crew, The Mandalorian and Grogu. “Avatar 3” has a name, and “Tron: God of War” was one of the closing speeches on the first night of the event.
