Piranha Plant joins Smash Bros. Ultimate; updated patch notes released

The latest patch for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has been released, and it’s a big one. Version 2.0.0 is now available for download, and the biggest news is the addition of a new character: Piranha Plant. Piranha Plant will be available for free to everyone who registers for the game before January 31st, and the character will be available for purchase to everyone at a later date. The new 2.0.0 patch also makes many changes and improvements. First off, you can now play Spirit Board with up to four players; notably, if someone gets eliminated, you’ll enter the battle. The patch also adds more spirits to the in-game store, including Buddy Pikachu and Buddy Eevee.

Elsewhere, the patch brings balance changes to a number of fighters; nearly all of the characters have been buffed in some way, such as increased strength and reduced vulnerability. You can check out full details of the character-specific changes on the Nintendo website .

In addition to Piranha Plant, Nintendo will be releasing five more DLC characters for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the first of which is the aforementioned Joker. Each fighter will be released individually for $6 and come with a new stage and multiple music tracks, but players can get all five fighters at a discount through the $25 Fighter Pass.
