People of Play has announced the winners of the Lifetime Achievement Award and Industry Game Changer Award for the 17th annual Toys and Games International Awards for Excellence (TAGIE). Mary Danby and Dan Romanelli will receive Lifetime Achievement Awards, while Alan Dorfman will be named an Industry Game Changer.
Danby is a British toy inventor and game designer best known for designing the games “Mystery of Beijing” and “Young Detective”. Romanelli is the founder of Warner Bros. Consumer Products, where he led the global success of the Batman, Harry Potter and Looney Tunes film franchises through marketing and product licensing.
“We are delighted to recognize and celebrate the lifelong contributions and achievements of Mary Danby and Dan Romanelli in the world of gaming,” said John Barbour, chair of TAGIE’s Lifetime Achievement Committee. “Both, in their own unique ways, have played important roles in the creative evolution of the game and have positively impacted the lives of millions of people.”

Dorfman is co-founder and president of Super Impulse USA, a company known for its line of smallest toys in the world, with functional toys that fit in the palm of your hand. Dorfman is also the founder and president of Basic Fun! From 1991 to 2011.

TAGIE will be held on Friday, November 8th with the theme “Toys Through Time”. Nine awards will be presented throughout the exhibition: Toy Innovator of the Year, Game Innovator of the Year, Rising Star Innovator of the Year, Most Innovative PR and Marketing Team of the Year, Most Innovative Art and Design Visual Effects of the Year, Most Innovative Supplier of the Year, Most Innovative Retailer of the Year, Most Innovative Licensing of the Year and Young Innovator of the Year. Finalists will be announced this month.
