The DC Universe may be in the midst of a shakeup, but there was no one in Hall H on Saturday penguin The panel at San Diego Comic-Con seemed worried about what this would mean.
It’s no secret that Max was once a respected streamer in the HBO programming space, but now lags far behind competitors like Netflix, Amazon, and Disney+/Hulu. The streaming service was forced to cancel superhero series and movies (some of which were already completed!) in the name of tax write-offs. Those who survived (e.g. peacemaker) have taken such a long break that fans aren’t even sure if they’ll be back. Meanwhile, streaming services as a whole have begun to lose their status as standalone subscriptions and are now integrated into bundles, with Disney+ undoubtedly being the main reason to sign up.
However, in Hall H, filled with die-hard comic book fans, these troubles faded away under the promise of DC and Marvel panels. Except Reeves admits he pitched the eight-episode series around The Penguin while filming batman. Warner Bros. Pictures insists it has nothing to do with HBO, so these background issues aren’t a concern.
Reeves was more interested in adding poetry to the long-form limited series format, putting characters under a microscope and digging into their psyches. However, he admitted that the actual story the show would tell was not something he came up with; it was all the work of LeFranc, who Farrell called a twisted person.
Reeves dominated the panel with his vision for the world he was responsible for creating. He calls himself the custodian of the franchise; there have been people before him and people who will come after him, but he’s trying to do the right thing with the material he has.
This is a far cry from previous versions Adam West batman; Reeves takes this world seriously, just as fans take it seriously. batman Now penguin Take these characters seriously as people dig in and discover their humanity.
Farrell admits that when he was cast in the film, he didn’t initially see how much he could do with the character; it’s such an exciting world to be in batman. It wasn’t until he saw the makeup dummy model on his computer that he began to understand just how much went into the penguin.
