Path of Exile launched a new expansion pack alongside Settlers of Kalgur, causing thousands of players to flock back to the game over the weekend to try new content, equip new characters, and try out new builds. It’s a time for PoE players to celebrate, but some opinions about the update are still up in the air thanks to a new threat: tornadoes.
You see, as part of the settlers of Kalgur, you help build a town alongside a number of identifiable characters. To do this, you’ll need to collect various new resources around Wraeclast, including Bismuth. Each resource has its own unique characteristics, but bismuth is closely associated with elemental powers. This means that the process of harvesting it can result in a deadly reaction – namely a tornado – which follows the player endlessly until they leave the map.

Movement is the name of the game in Path of Exile, but every now and then you’ll need to stop and loot or adjust your inventory. Or hell, just to stretch. But these tornadoes always chase you at breakneck speeds. They can also cause serious damage! One misstep, so to speak, and you may find yourself being blown away. Some players are also having visibility issues, especially on maps with dark surroundings, making it difficult to actually see these tornadoes coming.
This has led some players to start complaining about video games: Reddit. Various posts are filled with comments from like-minded players who are having a great time in the new league but are a little angry about their experience dealing with the Bismuth Tornado.
Thankfully, the team at Grinding Gear Games came to the rescue this morning, releasing a patch that significantly weakens the Bismuth Tornado threat. They deal 33% less damage on hit, are less aggressive, spawn less frequently, and can now spawn further away, which should give players some breathing room. Whether this will resolve the community’s complaints remains to be seen, but it’s a good move.
