While many people like the Nintendo Switch because it’s a portable console capable of playing a ton of indie games and Nintendo exclusives, what I want here is a non-portable Switch. Yes, I know that kind of defeats the purpose of the console. It should be able to “switch” between handheld devices and home consoles. But Nintendo eventually released the Switch Lite, which is incompatible with the standard Switch Dock and offered as a portable alternative. Since the Switch 2 is likely to be a more powerful console, I can imagine there will be a lot of PS4/Xbox One ports popping up within a few years of launch. Many of these games are best played on the couch, in front of the TV, with a controller, rather than hunched over a handheld computer, which drains its battery quickly.
So come on Nintendo, offer a Switch 2 Pro or Switch 2 Home Edition or whatever that ditches the touch screen and Joy-Con, bundles the Pro controllers, and makes it $50 to $100 cheaper. A sleek and compact black box that I can throw behind the TV and never think about it again. ——Zach Zwiesen
