Earlier this week, a new trailer for Venom: The Last Dance revealed that the character’s ultimate nemesis, Knull, will appear in the film. The villain was created in 2018 by writer Donny Cates and artist Ryan Stegman, and this is his first live-action appearance. Both creators desperately wanted to be paid for it.

on social media, Stegeman pointed out He didn’t receive any advance notice of Knull’s film debut, while jokingly talking about using his share of the money to play the character.

Cates had a more succinct response. He flipped the Venom symbol so it looked like it spelled out “money.”

Cates and Stegman introduced Knull as the god of the universe who created Venom’s symbiotic race before his creation turned against him and imprisoned him for years. Knull was eventually used as the main villain in the 2020 crossover between Cates and Stegman’s King in Black. It’s teasing his existence.

Marvel does reportedly have a policy of paying creators when characters originating from Marvel are used in film or TV projects. A 2022 report from The Hollywood Reporter stated that despite the original contract being worth $25,000, the creation of Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova The compensation for each of the workers has been reduced to US$5,000. It’s unclear whether those terms still exist or have been updated since then.

“Venom: The Last Dance” will be released on October 25.
