No, this is not an iPhone 17 rendering, but the new Xiaomi 14T Pro

Xiaomi’s new top-of-the-line phone is here, and it looks familiar.

For the Mi 14T Pro, Xiaomi’s head of design seems to have simply said: OK, let’s imagine next year’s iPhone and design our phone to look like that.

Not surprisingly, the result looks pretty good, even if it’s not the most pristine. Xiaomi sent me a 14T Pro review unit in Titan Gray, and I was surprised how much I liked it. It has flat aluminum edges dotted with antennas and a huge camera bump on the back, and is unmistakably iPhone-esque, but with one big difference: It comes with four camera units instead of three.

The phone is slightly larger than my iPhone 15 Pro Max and has ultra-thin bezels on the front. The only thing that really gives away that it’s an Android phone is the dotted camera cutout at the top of the display. If Xiaomi put a pill-shaped, dynamic island-like cutout there, it might be too much.

All in all, I like this design. This phone is simple yet elegant. I’ve had a few people ask me “What kind of iPhone is that?” which is funny.

Apart from that, the new Xiaomi phone is a powerful beast, with a MediaTek Dimensity 9300+ chipset, 12GB of RAM, 256/512/1,024GB of storage, a 5,000mAh battery, 120W wired charging, and 50W wireless charging. The 6.67-inch AMOLED display has a resolution of 2,712×1,220 pixels, a refresh rate of up to 144Hz, and a peak brightness of 4,000 nits.

Finally, the Leica-branded rear camera on the back consists of a 50MP main camera, a 50MP telephoto camera, and a 12MP ultra-wide-angle camera (the fourth circle is the flash). There is a 32-megapixel selfie camera on the front.

Finally, the phone is equipped with many artificial intelligence features, including support for Google’s Circle to Search and Google Gemini. That’s a big deal because these features were previously only available on Google’s Pixel devices and some Samsung phones. Xiaomi 14T Pro also has many Xiaomi-created AI functions, such as AI note-taking, AI recording, AI image editing, etc.

The Xiaomi Mi 14T Pro is available globally (but not in the United States, at least not directly), starting at €800. The Xiaomi Mi 14T, a similar-looking model but with a slightly less powerful chip and lacking some features such as wireless charging, starts at €650.
