The original had a rocky start, but that didn’t stop it from attracting 10 million players in seven days.
First Descendant has had its fair share of ups and downs since its launch earlier this month. With a strong start, it’s competing with Elden Ring on the Steam charts, an impressive feat compared to the recently released Shadow of the Erdtree. But things have gone downhill since then, with many players deriding the game’s monetization system and accusing the game of doing little to change Destiny 2’s iconography. The game currently has a “Mixed” rating on Steam, but even with all of these issues, that doesn’t actually stop people from playing the game. According to the game’s official Twitter account, the game reached 10 million players “in just 7 days”!

“Thank you all for the overwhelming support and love,” the post continued. “This means everything to us. We will do our best to give you a great experience. Can’t wait to continue this journey together!” This is a strange phrasing because it says it was achieved in 7 days 10 million players, but no indication of which 7 days – the tweet was posted on July 12th, but the game was released on July 2nd, which if my math is correct, is 10 days. It’s really not worth hanging up on, but it did at least tickle me a little bit.

It’s not just fans who are unhappy with the game, but critics too. The game’s developer, Nexon, wasn’t as cash-strapped as it is now, but instant-service games are hard to sustain. There could be 10 million players, but we’ll have to wait and see how many bounce back from this unless some major changes are made. The first patch for the game was released earlier this week at least, so if you’re a fan of looter shooters, there’s probably no need to worry just yet.
