when Nintendo announces secret 10,000-person game test For a project that includes a non-disclosure agreement, speculation is naturally wild. While something to do with an upcoming Switch successor seems to be the most popular idea, others are wondering if it could be some kind of expansion of Switch Online subscriptions. Place Filled up within secondsWith participants sworn to secrecy, it was of course only a matter of time before details leaked out.

The Best of The Game Awards 2023 Revealed

The first person to break the rule was an X user named Ethan_ThisGuy, Posted some pictures Revealing the nature of the project, it was inevitably later removed. This is the result of Nintendo’s update Game testing websiteonly visible to a select 10,000 people, allowing them to download the unnamed “test software” to their phones and Switch.

    spoiler warning

And what is the testing software? It is reported edge The now-deleted screenshot originally showed images of Nintendo’s first attempt at… an MMO.

Of course, this is a huge anticlimax. These things always do.

Still, Nintendo making an MMO about 15 years after people cared about MMOs is at least interesting in its own right. We’re not talking about fighting orcs and buying mounts here, but some of the fever dreams that Peter Molyneux might have after playing too much minecraft.

“In this game,” the text below the section titled “Aim of the Game,” reads, “the goal is to work with others to fully ‘exploit’ a huge, vast planet using creativity and farming resources.” The attached image (which we won’t publish) shows a giant sphere covered with an extensive grid, with some squares filled with varying amounts of blue. The description continues, “As you progress across the planet, you’ll discover new lands, enemies, and resources that are crucial to your journey.”

The second screenshot shows what appears to be a tiny minecraft The world inside the bell jar, it says,

Throughout the adventure, players will acquire special tools called beacons. These beacons shine a healing light that cleanses and develops the land. The higher a beacon is placed, the wider its beacon area becomes. You do your best work within your beacon zone.

Players will repeat this process until their current planet block is considered fully developed.

The last leaked information was titled “Development Core” and showed a large room made of blocks, with Autumn Guy-There are some unique figures running around, one of them holding a block of wood above his head. It says it’s “a separate space from the planet you’ll be exploring. Think of it as a social hub to hang out with other players. It’s also a place where you can level up your character, acquire items, “communicate with others, and more.”

beyond what we see ourselves as, edge Adding that there is a description of a “UGC (user-generated content) feature,” but what’s fascinating is that people can only share it with others after passing some kind of in-game test “to show that you understand the importance of respectful communication.” these functions. Oh, poor, sweet Nintendo.

It all seems to add up to some sort of giant collaborative release, e.g. minecraftpresumably each sphere has its own 10,000-person server, but any further details beyond that are just wild guesses.

It’s interesting that “communicating with others” seems to be a key part of the game, as that’s certainly something Nintendo games go to great lengths to prevent in order to maintain a child-safe environment. It’ll be interesting to see if this is limited to emojis and the like, or if Nintendo is about to discover how much you don’t want to chat publicly. anything.

Another thing worth noting is how the character art in the Dev Core images looks horrible. If it’s not a placeholder, then… duh.

Of course, this is just the first of many possible leaks. Apparently, the software won’t be playable until Wednesday, at which point Nintendo will have to pull out all the stops to copyright the billions of screenshots and videos that are about to appear. Still, given that participating means you’ve given your Switch Online details to Nintendo, anyone who’s not careful could be seriously affected. After all, this is Nintendo we’re talking about.
