Nintendo spent years keeping switch 2 console Confidentiality. The Japanese gaming giant spent months struggling finally confirmed It is developing new hardware. While we hope this speculation comes to an end, a new filing with the FCC seems to hint at more hardware on the way, which could be accessories for the upcoming consoles, or something else entirely.
Nintendo submitted a application Meet with the FCC on Friday, September 20th. Unfortunately, none of the application documents have much in common in terms of details. It’s not listed as a game console, but as a “wireless device.” According to one of the documents, all we know is that the FCC-required symbol will appear in a “recessed area on the bottom” of the device.
It doesn’t look like a high-performance device. Instead, the document states that it will be equipped with a 24GHz millimeter wave sensor. It is a type of radar that can detect the presence of objects, whether stationary or moving, within a relatively wide area around a device. When you’re close enough, it can be used to turn on a console, maybe a Switch 2. Such sensors can also recognize gestures.
as first pointed out edgeit doesn’t support Bluetooth, which implies it’s not some kind of wireless controller. There’s no sign of a 5 GHz or 6 GHz radio, which are basic requirements for any device looking for a fast WiFi connection. This means it’s probably not a console. Instead, it will support 2.4 GHz WiFi antennas, which is the minimum requirement for modern WiFi standards. This console supports WLAN and 24 GHz transceivers.
We’re guessing it’s some kind of peripheral for the Switch 2. steam deck or Lenovo Rescuer Go. Nintendo might add some extra support features to make it worth spending the extra cash. My first thought was that it might support the new console wirelessly and connect it to the TV without having to slam it into a dock. This is similar to PlayStation Portalalbeit working in the opposite direction from handheld devices to TVs.
Still, the unknown device’s limited WiFi range means it needs to rely on some more powerful hardware for a better connection. At least, it probably has nothing to do with Amiibos. Nintendo’s statue relies on NFC technology. We’ll just have to wait and see if anything beyond speculation happens. We’ve been waiting a long time for the Switch 2.
Previous FCC filings helped us understand SNES games coming to Switch soon and the first Rumors New console hardware, e.g. Switch OLED. The fact that there’s so little information about Nintendo’s next-gen console has us intrigued by every little detail that leaks out of Nintendo’s indestructible shell. Instead, the Japanese game maker is happy for people to keep buying the last few Switch consoles before the blockbuster Switch 2 is released next year.
