Warfield fans have officially entered one of the early stages of anticipation for the next game: Hope. After the disappointing launch of the critically panned Battlefield 2042, DICE is going back to basics with its next Battlefield.
The show’s new boss, Vince Zampella, who injected a healthy dose of opiates into many of our veins, confirmed this in a recent IGN interview. However, the good news doesn’t stop there, as a new leak reveals even more exciting things.

According to a new report from Insider Gaming, the next game (which reportedly doesn’t actually have a full name internally) is aiming to have 45 weapons and around 10 multiplayer maps at launch. The number of weapons may not be huge compared to games like Call of Duty, but it’s twice as many as Battlefield 2042’s firing weapons, and closer to some of the most popular Battlefield games like Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 2042. Battlefield 4″.
Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 4 in particular seem to be the biggest sources of inspiration for the next Battlefield – just look at the game’s first concept art. In fact, launching ten maps would bring the next game closer to those classics, at least in terms of launch content. Speaking of maps, the game’s conflicts will reportedly span the United States, Gibraltar (the setting for concept art), and other locations around the world.
The main focus of Ripple Effect appears to be “new experiences,” with reports describing it as a free-to-play battle royale game very similar to Call of Duty: Warzone. The main map of this mode is said to be a tropical map that looks similar to the crater of War Zone. EA has long wanted to replicate Activision’s CoD production model with Battlefield, and the publisher has hired the right people to make it happen, including some who worked at Activision as head of Call of Duty.
According to reports, the game’s narrative purportedly tells the story of a conflict between NATO and a private military company that takes place between 2027 and 2030. It’s great to hear that EA is bringing back the campaign mode after being snubbed in BF2042.
The report states that in multiplayer, damage will be overhauled to allow for caliber-based damage. This actually sounds very similar to Battlefield 5’s version of Destruction, which reacts differently to different weapons, artillery, heavy armor, etc. Another feature that was shown and discussed before Battlefield 5 launched but never actually came to fruition appears to be making its final appearance in the next game as well.
In addition to some unspecified movement changes, players will also be able to pick up and move downed teammates, which sounds very similar to BF5’s ill-fated drag cover mechanic. As the report suggests, the feature appears to be designed for battle royale, which would make the most sense. That said, all experiences will utilize the same mechanics, so it’s bound to see some use in regular multiplayer as well.
Early next year, we expect to have some kind of early community testing, and much of this vision will become clearer. It’s safe to say that Battlefield fans are eager to get their hands on this game.
