Eureka Video releases trailer for restored Blu-ray version of 1982 classic Don Bruce– Directing movies NIMH Secrets.
This movie is based on Robert C. O’Brien popular children’s books, Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMHHe produced the film in 1979, shortly after Bruce left Walt Disney Productions to start his own company, Don Bluth Productions. NIMH Secrets is the company’s first feature film.
I love this movie. This is a beautifully crafted animated film about a field mouse named Mrs. Brisby who must enlist the help of a group of mice to save her sick son.
She learns that her connection to the rats is deeper than she imagined. The film has been described as “a sweeping fantasy epic animated in stunningly beautiful cels.”
Widowed Lady Brisby (Elizabeth Hartman) is a field mouse who lives with her brood in a cinder block on Fitzgibbon’s rural farm—although not for long. With harvest season approaching, she must move before her family’s home is destroyed by farmers’ plows.
But her son Timothy (Ina Fried), is already sick and cannot move. Desperate for help, Mrs. Brisby visits the Great Owl (John Carradine), who in turn introduced her to Nicodemus (Derek Jacobi): The wise leader of the pack of rats who live under the rose bushes at Fitzgibbon Manor.
The rats are technologically advanced and possess immense intelligence due to their connection to a mysterious place they call NIMH, and agree to help Mrs. Brisby due to their cherished friendship with Mrs. Brisby’s late husband.
But not all rats are so kind, and power-hungry Jenner (Paul Chenard) has a vested interest in ensuring Mrs. Brisby and her family of mice stay put…
Eureka Video will release a restored Blu-ray version of the film in December 2024 as part of the “Cinema Masters Series”, limited to 2,000 copies and equipped with an O card holder.
