Warning: Major spoilers for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt ahead.
The ending of the base version of The Witcher 3 depends on many factors. There are obviously big choices, but also a bunch of smaller ones, and it’s the former that really shapes the final proper cutscenes you get before the game depicts the rest in a storybook style. It turns out there was more to the final cutscene, and now a modder has restored it.
Like most of the more interesting titles that have emerged as part of The Witcher 3’s modding renaissance over the past few months, this one wouldn’t be possible without the REDkit modding tools. You know, while we wait for more news on The Witcher 4 and other projects CD Projekt is currently busy with, they’ve got a lot of cool stuff to tide us over.

If you often took the path in TW3’s main story, which saw Ciri escape and become a wizard after the game’s climax, then you’ll be familiar with the scenario modder Merigoldmaribor has revisited with their mod “Ciri the Witcher Ending Restored” this scene.
After Gerry buys her a new sword, he and his stepdaughter meet at the White Orchard Inn, chat for a while, and then head off on a post-credits adventure that we don’t see. As you can see here, the original version switches to black, with Ciri pushing her new blade back into its sheath, and then the narration tells you the consequences of the rest of her actions.
Merigold Maribor’s mod resumes with additional scenes after re-sheathing, seeing Gerry and Ciri actually standing up and preparing to leave the hotel. Geralt begins by saying that either Yennefer or Triss – depending on which pairing the player chooses during the game – awaits in Elland. Ciri then responded: “If we hurry up, we can see her in two days.” The two approached the door, and with a “bang”, the subtitles played.
While the mention of Elland is a good thing for Lore fans, considering that the Temple of Meritele in Netflix’s The Witcher original and season 2 both featured in the principality near Vizima, I’d bet on , which is unlikely to mean much. CD Projekt is left in a “very buggy” state.
If anything, I’d say this could bode well for CD Projekt’s choice to include a nice reunion with a companion of your choice or Ciri in the Blood and Wine DLC, which is basically a feature of any Witcher 3 game right now Correct ending. But hey, who knows what a more die-hard fan than me might find.
