Latest official port doom and Doom 2—The classic 90s shooter from id Software—fully supports player-created mods and maps. In less than 48 hours, you can shoot now mario characters in doom Thanks to modders, on your Xbox.
Yesterday at QuakeCon, id software announced Doom + Doom IIa new enhanced port of the classic FPS game that includes some new features and content, such as new official episodes doom. But even more interestingly, this recently released port adds full mod support for all platforms, allowing anyone to upload custom maps and mods to play on Xbox and PlayStation. Well, people were obsessed with this feature, adding famous maps like nuts.wad, and a plethora of IP-infringing mods that may not stick around for long.
On Thursday, after get off work, I started the new Doom + Doom II Ported it to my Xbox Series X and started checking out the mods people uploaded. At first it was just things like Romero’s Imprint 2 and harmonious. Cool stuff, sure, but nothing also Weird.
But at night, I found a super mario bros. mod, multiple uploads witch, Creepy (recently created) myhouse.wadseveral versions of nuts.wad, and even Created a controversial map package One of the Columbine shooters. Someone also uploaded a “working version ofImp encounter,” also known as doom The map is notorious for Doom Guy having sex with imp enemies. It’s now available to play on Xbox, which I didn’t expect.
As of Friday morning, all of these mods were still playable on my Xbox. Just a few minutes ago I launched super mario bros. modulewhich changes enemies, weapons, and sound effects from doom Something with the Nintendo series. It’s well-made and has been circulating online since the early 2000s.
Another one I checked made and functioned poorly The Simpsons Characters replace demons. I’m not sure Nintendo or Disney would be happy to see these mods playable on Xbox or PlayStation. I have to assume Bethesda will clean up these mods soon and start removing some of them.
To be clear, I don’t want this to happen. doom Modding has a long history of incorporating other series and characters into classic FPSs. Some of the best and most played mods in history mix and match different IPs in silly ways. Its core part is doom Modification.
However, I also hope Bethesda doesn’t want to piss off any other companies or risk lawsuits, so I doubt these mods will stick around long term. But hey, if you’re quick enough, you can download a few and check them out on Xbox or PlayStation and have some fun before the lawyers ruin everything.
