last week, Lego officially launches the $500 Jabba Bargeits next huge Star Wars The UCS set is for collectors and adults alike. The new sets will be available next month and feature a range of LEGO minifigures, including R2-2D, Jabba the Hutt and Bib Fortuna. But this new set of “Slave Leia” minifigures has sparked some strange discussion online.
Over the years, we’ve received a few LEGO versions of the 1983 Leia Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. You see, Leia is wearing a tiny, revealing metallic bikini and loincloth/skirt. This Leia is often referred to by fans as “Slave Leia and became wildly popular among the fan base. But it also sparked widespread debate among fans and critics. when disney acquired Star Wars In 2012, we did see a decrease in the frequency of “Slave Leia” appearing in merchandise and media. Since Disney’s acquisition Star Warsonly one new LEGO set has been released, including a metallic bikini version. Now the new version is finally here, but she has less plastic skin.
September 21, LEGO News and Fan Site Building block set Tweet Two images comparing the 2013 Leia and the new 2024 Leia in the Barge package. The images show that the new Leia is essentially the same, but now has a larger skirt that covers her entire thigh. No more weird nudity on the sides or back of the thighs.
The reactions were strange and hard to parse. There are those who mock or parody those who are upset about not being able to “yank” it onto a plastic toy figure. Others jokingly attributed the character’s covered thighs to the vague concept of “waking up.” Mixed in with the jokes and confusing posts, however, are those that appear to be actually Feeling uneasy about this new minifigure. Some people seem to think this is Disney trying to erase history. Others clamored for censorship. At least one Lego store describes the new Legie figures as “One step forward, two steps back”.
How much of this is true and how much is just a joke is hard to tell. In 2024, I could easily see some people getting mad at less sexy LEGO minifigures. People are outraged that green M&Ms aren’t sexy. It seems like every week a bunch of internet celebrities yell “Deqin” exist fictional women. We’ve long since crossed the Rubicon when it comes to things that some internet weirdos will scream about, and I really can’t tell if it’s a joke or a desperate soul angrily sharing his truth about Leia’s unexposed plastic butt idea.
Anyway, I think the new Leia looks good. Oddly, her dress doesn’t cover her hips like it does in the movie, and while the new dress may not be accurate, it looks better on her figure than the old one. also There is no completely accurate loincloth design either. I’m going to stop writing about this now and try to enjoy my life. Try to feel something again.
