Leviathan, a new alt-history animated series is coming to Netflix, and it has some incredibly strong talent behind it.
Animation studio Orange is back with a new 3DCG series Leviathan, which is actually based on the 2009 series written by Scott Westerfield and illustrated by Keith Thompson Adapted from the novel of the same name. Both the series and the book are an alternate historical version of World War I, in which the Allies, namely the German Empire, Austria-Hungary, the Ottoman Empire, and Bulgaria (referred to as Clankers in the book) use large mechas and war machines, and Artificial beings designed for war. Essentially, think World War I but steampunk.

You can check out the first trailer for the series above, which does give a pretty lengthy introduction to the show, but doesn’t feature any voice acting. There are also some very good talents among them – the composers are Nobuko Toda and Kazuma Jinnouchi. This composition duo has worked on “Metal Gear Solid 4” and “Final Fantasy 14” and the creation of games such as “Halo 5”.

The beloved Joe Hisaishi, known for his work on Studio Ghibli productions such as “Howl’s Moving Castle” and “Spirited Away,” also composed original songs for “Leviathan.” On top of that, Orange is a powerhouse animation studio behind series like Trigun Stampede, Beasters, and Land of the Lustrous. It’s safe to say this is a very strong team.
Netflix explains the show: “In 1914, on the eve of war, a fugitive prince and a girl in disguise meet aboard the Leviathan, a bioengineered airship, and change the course of history.”
Unfortunately, Leviathan doesn’t have an exact release date yet, but Netflix currently expects it to be released sometime in 2025. ” (RIP “Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure” part) 6).
