People say history is written by the victors.
If so, 50 Cent could declare himself victorious in his decades-long feud with rival rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs.
As you’ve no doubt heard by now, Diddy was arrested on sex trafficking and racketeering charges. The hip-hop mogul is being held without bail at the Brooklyn Detention Center.
The scandal was heavily covered by the media, and the arrest could soon send shockwaves through the music industry.
But while some celebrities may be holding back for fear of being implicated, the 50-year-old enjoyed a well-deserved “told you so” moment.
type It was reported today that a documentary series about Diddy’s crimes is set to premiere on Netflix. 50 Cent will serve as executive producer through his G-Unit Film & Television brand.
50 first revealed the project back in December.
At the time, Diddy was sued by four women accusing him of sexual assault, but no criminal charges have been filed.
Of course, turning 50 is no stranger to the world of television. In fact, the semi-retired host is a powerhouse at Starz, serving as an EP on many shows in the Thrones franchise.
“This is a story with huge human consequences. It’s a complex narrative that spans decades, not just the headlines or clips you’ve seen so far,” said director Alexandria Stapleton, 50 ) said in a statement released today.
“We remain steadfast in our commitment to giving the voiceless a voice and presenting authentic and nuanced perspectives,” the statement continued.
“While these allegations are disturbing, we urge everyone to remember that Sean Combs’ story is not the complete story of hip-hop and its culture. Our goal is to ensure that individual actions do not overshadow the culture’s broader contributions.
Clearly, the goal of 50 is about more than just schadenfreude.
There’s a story here that needs to be told, and it may be years before the legend of Diddy and his alleged crimes play out in court.
At the same time, Stapleton and 50 take it upon themselves to clarify the victims’ accusations while exonerating the culture that Diddy has been a part of for more than 30 years.
It’s true that without his wealth and fame, Diddy wouldn’t have gotten away with it for so long, but his alleged crimes shouldn’t be seen as a reflection on the hip-hop community.
We believe 50’s intentions are pure and his record as a capable producer is there for all to see.
The untitled documentary series, currently in production, has no premiere date yet.
