If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a thousand times: I’m a huge Dermot Mulroney fan.
He’s been on the screen for over thirty years and he’s done it all.
From romantic comedies to horror film and television roles, from the hilarious to the heartbreaking, Morrone’s range is unparalleled.
Luckily for us Chicago Fire fans, Morrone will join the cast in season 13 as the network’s new captain, Dom Pascal.
As we wait for Chicago Fire to return on Wednesday, September 25th at 9:00 PM ET, we’ve been revisiting some of Dermot Mulroney’s favorites.
If you’re wondering where you’ve seen him before, or you’re looking for a great new show or movie to watch, we’ve got you covered.
Check out thirteen of his best movies and shows below.
Dermot Mulroney as Detective Bailey in Scream VI (2023)
Joining one of the biggest horror franchises of all time, Morrone continues to prove how talented he is by displaying a wide range of emotions.
In Scream 6, Morrone is investigating a recent series of murders in New York City, and he becomes especially invested when his daughter becomes a victim. Get ready for a big twist!
Jack Lockhart’s Christmas Canceled (2021)
Jack Lockhart begins a new relationship with a young woman in this Christmas-themed comedy. Unfortunately, that woman was his daughter Emma’s high school enemy.
Emma will stop at nothing to end the relationship, but Jack is happy. Will Emma let go of her anger for her father?
Greg Tanner at Station 19
Mulroney appeared in five episodes of the Grey’s Anatomy spinoff Firehouse 19, playing the estranged father of Andy’s police friend Ryan.
He is no stranger to complex roles. Maybe his experience with the firefighter-themed show will pay off when he embarks on a Chicago firefighting tour.
Dermot Mulroney as August Buettner in I Still See You (2018)
In this horror film, Morrone plays a high school teacher with a secret.
After major events, “remains” – or echoes of the dead – wander aimlessly around town, while the living continue to live their lives.
The protagonists look to him for guidance as they investigate the truth behind a small town tragedy.
Bob Thompson Talks ‘American Horror Story: Cult’
Who hasn’t seen American Horror Story by now? In “Cult,” Morrone plays a news anchor who enjoys engaging in inappropriate activities in the workplace.
The character is chaotic, rude, and slightly unhinged.
Sean Pierce “Shameless”
Mulroney’s character in “Shameless” is a recovering heroin addict and the manager of a restaurant where the show’s main character, Fiona, works.
The two of them develop a friendship and then a relationship. He becomes involved in her dysfunctional family while also managing his own chaotic personal life.
Sean Brenner, “Insidious” Chapter 3 (2015)
“Insidious Chapter 3” is set in 2007 and is a prequel to the first two films in the series. Brenner recently lost his wife and is now a single father to a teenage daughter (Quinn) and son Alex.
We are reminded of Moroni’s horrific experiences as she harnessed dark and powerful forces with the help of demonologist Elise Rainier.
Jeff Friend on Enlightenment
Morrone appears as a love interest alongside Laura Dern, who plays a journalist working for the Los Angeles Times.
In the second season of the HBO drama, he returns to his romantic comedy roots.
Russell Schiller on “New Girl”
In “New Girl,” one of Jesse’s students has a very handsome (and wealthy) father. Russell becomes Jesse’s boyfriend and a role model for Nick, who is starstruck by his maturity and elegance.
Morrone shows off his hilarious performance in the role as Jesse and Russell struggle to blend their lifestyles.
Jack Burnett, “Family Tree” (2011)
Morrone plays the husband of a woman named Bonnie who suffers from amnesia. This gives Jack, Bonnie and their twin teenagers a new start.
The film didn’t do well with critics, but thanks to its stellar cast (Selma Blair, Christina Hendricks, and Rachel Leigh Cook), it’s still a solid hour and a half to spend. pleasant way.
Dermot Mulroney as Everett Stone in The Stones (2005)
A big, noisy family spending Christmas together. One of five siblings, Morrone plays Everett, a man who brings his girlfriend home to meet her family for the first time.
The film features talented actors such as Diane Keaton and Craig T. Nelson. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, and one or two twists will leave you breathless.
Gavin Mitchell in “Friends”
Morrone’s time on “Friends” was relatively short, but still memorable. Gavin is Rachel’s handsome co-worker.
Their relationship was fraught with tension as he tried to undermine her every time, causing her confidence to take a hit.
Michael O’Neill, “My Best Friend’s Wedding” (1997)
This is one of my favorite comfort movies of all time and one of the best romantic comedies ever made. Julianne, played by Julia Roberts, is best friends with Morrone’s character.
When he gets engaged to Kimberly (Cameron Diaz), she realizes she’s in love with him and spends the movie trying to figure out how to tell him and stop the wedding.
The ending will make you fall in love with Dermot Mulroney. Nearly 30 years later, the film still feels like a soft landing after a bad week.
