It’s only been two months since now Mortal Kombat 1 saw the arrival of a huge expansion, adding a new campaign and three characters, as well as the return of Towers of Time mode. Brutal Warriors is now updated again, with the debut of playable Ghostface scream Franchise. While this is enjoyable in its own right, Replay Takeover also introduces an equally exciting feature.

This fantastic new tool has been so popular this year that several other games in the genre have introduced it or added it in updates. However, if this is the main fighting game you play, you probably know nothing. The marketing push for Ghostface and the subsequent glossing over of the new tool may not have helped. Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered with details on Replay Takeover and how you can benefit from using it.

Replay Takeover is a feature in Replay Mode that allows you to control any character for 20 seconds.

The main motivation for this mode is to revisit your game and try to find more effective techniques for any difficult moments. When your opponent has you cornered, you don’t just want to know what the better response was, you can use replay takeover to review the moment and figure out what other options you had. You can take over from any point in the game and start over as needed until you’re satisfied. This is a great learning tool and much more effective than trying to reproduce these situations in training mode.

    How to use replay takeover?

While you’re watching other players’ replays, you can access replay takeovers at any time. Thankfully, accessing replays is much easier than it used to be. Here are the steps to follow:

    • On the main menu, go to Learn and select Replay.
    • Select the replay you want to watch and select Watch.
    • Navigate to any section and press the left or right analog stick to control the Player One or Player Two character respectively. Alternatively, press the Pause button and select an option there.
    • Press Restart (View button on Xbox or trackpad on PlayStation) at any time to return to the moment you were in control.
    • Once you’re satisfied, press the left stick to end control and return to watching the replay.

It’s important to remember that while you only have 20 seconds to control a fighter, the other fighter will insist on replaying the same inputs. Unless you are practicing how to bypass long combining strings, you should get used to restarting. After interrupting other players’ actions and changing the order and timing of their inputs, things can start to get weird.

nice to see Mortal Kombat 1 Embrace replay takeover, I highly recommend this feature. This is a great tool that allows for more practical learning than most training modes offer. Whether you’re new to the game or play ranked online every day, Replay Takeover is sure to help you improve.
