Web3 arena fighter Moonray recently announced an integration with Coinbase’s Base blockchain.
The partnership brings blockchain-powered features to the game, including in-game NFTs, player-owned assets and token-based staking.
To celebrate, Moonray will be hosting a free coin event starting today (November 19), allowing players to claim exclusive character skins for a limited time.
What is moonlight?
Moonray is a web3-enabled multiplayer arena combat game that blends fast-paced combat with a compelling post-human aesthetic.
Players engage in melee-focused combat, using a mix of parrying, dodging, ranged attacks, and grappling mechanics. The game offers a variety of modes, including 4v4 team matches, deathmatch and fierce 1v1 duels, designed to test players’ tactics and combat skills.
Originally launched as an alpha version on the Epic Games Store earlier this year, Moonray has gained attention for its innovative use of blockchain technology. Although the console version will lack web3 functionality due to platform limitations, it plans to expand its reach with the PlayStation 5 release next year.
Why integrate with the underlying blockchain?
Coinbase’s Base blockchain offers scalability, low transaction fees, and secure infrastructure, making it an ideal choice for Moonray’s blockchain ambitions. This integration enables Moonray to provide true asset ownership, allowing players to trade, sell or use in-game items as they see fit.
“Base blockchain allows us to provide true ownership of these digital items, giving players the flexibility they deserve,” said Hans Andersson, co-founder and chief commercial officer of Moonray Studios.
Additionally, Moonray plans to launch an ERC-20 token, $MNRY, in the coming weeks. The token will support betting and community-organized tournaments, further enhancing the competitive nature of the game.
How to participate in free coin minting?
As part of its integration with Base, Moonray offers players the opportunity to create unique, playable character looks for free.
The minting event begins on November 19th and lasts for 48 hours, allowing players to mint 1 per wallet. Character skins are NFTs that can be used in the game and traded on OpenSea, allowing players to fully own their digital assets.
Moonray has not yet announced a specific time or URL for the event, but fans are encouraged to follow the game’s official social media channels for the latest news.
