Moonray Studios is bringing its Ethereum-based multiplayer game Moonray to mobile platforms, beyond its original PC release.
Originally launched in early access on the Epic Games Store, the game combines traditional game mechanics with optional blockchain features and has attracted investment from major companies such as Animoca Brands, Polygon Ventures and Cardano.
By launching on mobile devices, Moonray seeks to expand its presence in the gaming market while developing its unique IP across multiple platforms.
What is moonlight?
Moonray is a sci-fi combat game set in a distant post-human world where players engage in melee combat.
Known for its simple mechanics that appeal to both casual and professional players, the game originally launched on the Epic Games Store in July and is still available in Early Access.
Moonray is built on Ethereum and integrates optional web3 features such as token trading and wallet connections to provide blockchain interaction for players who wish to use them. However, these features are optional, allowing traditional gamers to play without involving blockchain elements.
What can we expect from the mobile version?
The mobile version of Moonray is powered by the MNRY protocol, a tool developed by the Miium Foundation that enables smooth blockchain interaction across PC and mobile platforms.
The game combines blockchain and traditional gaming features, allowing it to cater to a wider range of players, from web3 enthusiasts to those only interested in traditional gaming experiences.
The studio has partnered with Reel FX to develop an animated series based on Moonray, aiming to further establish the game’s story and characters. Additionally, the graphic novel Mother’s Skin is available at select retailers in North America and the UK, providing new content for fans of the game’s sci-fi world.
What’s next for Moonlight?
Moonray Studios also plans to bring Moonray to other platforms, with a PlayStation 5 planned for release in 2025.
Currently available in alpha version on the Epic Games Store, the developers aim to increase player engagement and expand the game’s audience through the mobile version.
The upcoming consoles represent the next phase in Moonray’s strategy of making its sci-fi universe available on a variety of platforms.
