Microsoft confirmed that based on rumors, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will be available on Game Pass this week.
Modern Warfare 3, the latest entry in the long-running series, will be released on Game Pass on July 24, which will mark the first time a Call of Duty game is available on the subscription service.
This is also the second Activision Blizzard game to be launched on Game Pass since Microsoft acquired Activision Blizzard last year. The other game is, of course, Diablo 3.
The next Call of Duty game, called Black Ops 6, will launch in October this year and will also be available on Game Pass, but due to Microsoft’s recent announcement of a restructuring of Game Pass, it will be limited to certain subscribers of the service.
In case you missed it, the existing Game Pass Console is being retired and replaced by Game Pass Standard, which offers console multiplayer by default but excludes day-one versions of Xbox-exclusive games like Black Ops 6. Members including PC Game Pass and Game Pass Ultimate will receive the day-one release. Anyone on Standard will have to wait an unannounced period of time before games like Black Ops 6 can be added.
The price of Game Pass will also increase for each level, just in time for the latest and brightest Call of Duty. The move sparked the ire of the Federal Trade Commission, which is currently trying to appeal Activision Blizzard’s sale to Microsoft.
The FTC described the changes to Game Pass as “exactly the harm to consumers that the FTC alleges the merger would cause.”
