Microsoft today began testing its new Xbox Game Pass Standard tier with Xbox Insiders. The new Game Pass Standard subscription includes Xbox’s usual Game Pass library, but also offers online console multiplayer games. But crucially, it doesn’t include immediate access to day-one-release games.
During the beta period, Xbox Insiders can access Xbox Game Pass Standard for just $1. “Any renewals during the preview period will also be charged $1 per month,” said Megan Spurr, senior community lead for Xbox Game Pass. Once this standard tier fully launches, the price will be $14.99 per month.
Microsoft also made it clear when day-one games and other games will be available in the Standard tier. “Certain games in Game Pass Ultimate (day one games or other game entries) are not immediately available through Game Pass Standard and may be added to the library at a future date (up to 12 months or longer, specifics will vary depending on the situation),” Spurr said.
Microsoft first announced the new Xbox Game Pass Standard package in July, along with price increases for Ultimate and PC Game Pass subscribers. Microsoft promises to launch Xbox Game Pass Standard “in the coming months.” Existing subscribers will continue to use their existing Xbox Game Pass console subscription, but new Game Pass subscribers will no longer be able to choose a console option until the new Game Pass standard subscription is more widely available.
