A free demo of Metaphor: ReFantazio, the new turn-based JRPG from the creators of Persona, is now available on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC. Progress made in the demo will carry over to the full version of the game, which will be released in October.
This demo allows players to check out the prologue to the upcoming fantasy role-playing game and replay it as often as they wish. “Metaphor” begins with the protagonist and their fairy companion Galika traveling to the royal capital, only to have their caravan attacked. The two then hiked through the wasteland outside the city, with the goal of joining the royal army and delivering an important message. This detour is the game’s way of introducing players to how Metaphor’s combat and exploration work.
Anyone who has played Persona will immediately recognize Metaphor’s stylish menus and UI, and its turn-based combat will look familiar, too, although there are some key differences. When facing stronger enemies, the game features turn-based combat where players will seek to exploit their enemies’ weaknesses. For low-ranked cannon fodder, Metaphor will allow players to defeat them quickly in real-time combat. Instead of using characters, Characters bootstraps various archetype classes, with over 40 to choose from.
In a recent hands-on preview of Metaphor: ReFantazio , we expressed that our biggest praise for Atlus’ latest title was that we didn’t want to put it down, and were intrigued by the game’s meta-narrative choices and its implementation of various social features of the Persona. Simulation system.
Metaphor: ReFantazio launches on October 11th and will be available on Xbox Game Pass on day one.
