Metaphor: ReFantazio is finally here, and it features a follower system that will look familiar to any fans of the developer’s Persona games. Followers are your social connections, characters you want to spend time with, becoming closer to them while unlocking the benefits of doing so. Unlocking new followers will open a new archetype tree, with advanced archetypes having higher bond levels. Some of these followers will appear as part of the main story, while others can only be found through side quests.
Each follower has eight levels to unlock, making them easy to track once you reach the second bond level with your companion Galika. This unlocks the follower’s Echo ability, and when you have some free time and aren’t in a dungeon, you can press the Y/Triangle button to open the menu. This will show who can improve and who can’t. If someone isn’t making progress, talking to them will tell you what’s holding you back. The hindrance could be that a specific royal virtue (your social stat) isn’t high enough, or that you need to talk to them on the Gauntlet Runner when traveling to your destination.
Trackers are listed roughly in order of unlocking. Any followers that are unlocked as part of the main story and are more or less unmissable will be marked as story-based with minimal spoilersbut there will still be some. Each slide will also include some helpful skills you should focus on.
