This week I read AI slope and sports betting and Jonny Iveyclearing out my schedule for the new season The Great British Bake Off, watch sicario and Pirates of the Caribbean and A Quiet Place: Day One On the plane seat screen, just like their director wanted, insta subscribe Hasan Minhaj’s new YouTube showand then ruthlessly deceive people vejicastle Clip passed What’s new in Pocket Casts.
I also have some new Meta gadgets for you, a mobile game that will take up all your free time, a couple of highly anticipated new movies, the best Spotify features of all time, and more. So much happening! Let’s take a closer look.
(As always, the best part Installer It’s your ideas and techniques. What are you doing? What should others read/watch/play/try/build with clay this week? Tell me all: [email protected]. If you know others you might like Installertell them to subscribe here.

- Meta’s Mission 3S. My biggest issues with the Quest 3 were price and passthrough, and this new model seems to solve both of those issues. It’s back in ‘totally reasonable gaming console’ range, pass-through demo looks like a lot of Sharper than before. They look great, although not as good as…
- Limited Edition Ray-Ban Meta Wayfarer. I already own two pairs of Meta’s smart glasses (don’t ask), but I’m still longing for a pair of clear glasses. They’re more expensive and actually take away some of the nice non-gadget vibe of the other models, but they look so good.
- Balatero Mobile. This might be the most recommended thing ever Installer — I swear, every week someone tells me how much this roguelike poker game has taken over their lives. Now it’s on your phone! $10, no data collected, no microtransactions, and I was running out of screen time.
- Wolves. This Clone Pete Apple TV Plus movie has a fascinating backstory that tells a lot about the future of Hollywood, but I also love a big-budget movie in which a movie star says cool things in a cool way Lines. It seems so.
- New Roku Ultra. I helped review the Google TV Streamer this week, and I really like that thing. But I’m also glad to see Roku continuing to push — the new Roku isn’t reinventing the wheel, but it’s faster and better, which is a very good thing.
- wild robot. I really want to tell you to go see Megacity this weekend, but every sign points to this movie being hot garbage. But people seem excited about this animated movie about a trapped robot, and it sounds cute and enjoyable, like something I’d watch a hundred times.
- The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom. Zelda Game… You play as Zelda. This is the dream! The game doesn’t seem as big, awe-inspiring, or platform-defining as Breath of the Wild or Kingdom Tears, but it sounds just as smart and fun.
- Spotify’s AI playlist feature. Here’s the terrible news for my relentless Spotify quit: AI playlists are Great. Now that the feature has launched in the US, I’ve been using it to name some bands or songs, plus the overall vibe, and it’s picked out dozens of songs that, at least so far, always seem to be hits. Spotify is very, very good at this part of the music game.
- social studies. Being a child is hard. The PhD spoke with a group of students about how social media has made being a kid in 2024…maybe not always more difficult, but definitely more complex.
- Empty ears open. Nothing’s headphones have always been solid, and as someone who’s been actively switching to open-back earbuds lately, I’m excited to see how these sound. They look cool too! A big week for clarity gadgets.
Screen sharing
Interesting facts: Joanna Stern is the main reason why I found a job edge first. (That story is long and, if I recall correctly, involves her playing a fairy in a video? But I promised her I wouldn’t tell that story.) These days, she’s a columnist wall street journalEmmy Award winner and most recently the creator of Joannabot, an artificial intelligence chatbot that tells you everything you need to know about iPhone 16. We’ll leave it alone.
I asked Joanna to share her home screen because she just reviewed the iPhone 16, which means she only A home screen must be set. And since she’s always using new gadgets and switching between different things, I’m curious about what always comes out on top.
Here’s Joanna’s home screen, along with some information about the apps she uses and why:
I’m submitting my home screen and My Control Center screen because I’m proud of the work I do on Control Center. I can submit it for a reward. But really, I just want to use this forum to complain about the all-in-one connectivity widget in iOS 18’s new Control Center. I like the single button so I can easily turn them on and off, or long press to get in there. Sadly, they have removed the single Wi-Fi button, but I read on this great site that it will be returning in iOS 18.1.
Telephone: iPhone 16 Pro Max.
wallpaper: This is my dog browser. It’s not his best shot, but the frame works well for placing him in the middle of the screen. My lock screen wallpaper is an awesome retro iPod made by designer Shane Levine. I purchased it through this website last year after it was featured in the newsletter.
app: Wall Street Journal, ChatGPT, Apple Notes, Google Maps, Google Docs, Google Calendar, Instagram, YouTube, Clock, Threads, Signals, Photos, Slack, Spotify, Phone, Safari, Messages, Gmail.
My app is very basic and feels basic to me. I work (Slack, Gmail). iMessage(message, signal). I listen and watch stuff (YouTube, Spotify). My social media (Threads, Instagram). I work more (Google Docs, Wall Street Journal). If it’s not on this home screen, I usually just search for it.
Prior to iOS 18, I had a widget stack with weather and time zone widgets on my home screen, but I moved it to another screen. I might move it back. I probably won’t. Gotta live a little longer.
I also asked Joanna to share some things that interest her right now. Here’s what she shared:
- The devil at the elbow. I’m currently listening to this audiobook created by my talented colleague Valerie Bauerlein. It all has to do with the Murdough murders. The writing, the details, the whole thing is so gripping. I found myself just sitting in the garage waiting for a chapter to be completed.
- go all out. I know I’m late to the hit Netflix series Golf-U-, but I started playing golf again this summer and love the stories of the players and the psychological appeal of the game.
- Take your pet to school day. My three year old loved this book. I don’t want to spoil it, but the pets take over Mapleview Elementary and Ms. Allen is angry.

“sliding ocean. It’s a match-3 (or match-4!) game, but there’s more to it: it takes real strategy behind your moves to beat the high-end levels, but that’s by no means unfair, despite the in-app purchases and power-ups , can be purchased to make levels easier, but crucially, you never need to do so. It’s the most compelling, mobile-friendly game I’ve ever found, and a gem that I recommend without reservation. ——Jamie
“Gisnap is another daily puzzle game, this time made by David Friedman Sarcastic Sans. It looks like a crossword puzzle-style grid, but the words just cross and wrap around. The goal is to reveal citations and sources by filling in letters in vertical columns. I’ve got many of my friends hooked. ——Kyle
“satisfy 1.0 was released about a week ago. A group of great developers have effectively made a game that feels like work but is fun. If you like conveyor belts and late nights, this might be for you. – Matt

“I have recommended it before over-the-air applications Used to be a great travel companion, but unfortunately it is closing. If you are looking for alternatives, frivolous It’s great, especially for travel statistics, that they are building an importer for App in the Air users. – Vivian
“We’ve been watching English teacher About foreign exchange. The laughs are constant and each episode so far is better than the last. Easily one of the funniest shows on TV right now. – Daniel
“I have been given Humanscale FR300 ergonomic foot joystickwhich is a very technical-sounding name, is a very manual/mechanical swing pedal. Very pleasant to use. I stand on it sometimes too…I’m not sure if it’s safe, but it’s certainly fun! – wisdom
“Putting it into my Amazon shopping cart over and over again Black Milanese strap Apple Watch Ultra 2. Now out of stock. Even Apple said it would ship in early November. ——Scott
“Been using different LL.M. LM Studio. Integrate it into my obsidian Vault can help summarize and organize things into a specific format. How cool! ——Cody

I’ve been on one trip after another over the past two weeks, and I just wanted to give a quick shout-out to my new #1 travel tip: a wall charger that doubles as a big…ass portable battery. I have This Anker modelIt’s $55 and can charge both USB-C and USB-A devices, and it also charges itself so I can get 10,000mAh of power when there’s no outlet nearby. (besides newer There are two USB-C ports, which charge faster, but the battery capacity is smaller. The only reason to survive a train ride is to fly. here at Installerwe like smart charging strategies, and this is as smart as it gets.
