FromSoftware has announced that Armored Core 6: Rubicon Fire has sold over 3 million copies, a fantastic milestone for a series that has previously firmly dominated a sea of niche video game series. As of the time of this announcement, the game has been out for less than a year, which is certainly a good pace for a new game on a traditional IP.
As for how this compares to previous games in the series, those stats are a little hard to track. Statistics from VGChartz, the only website that provides most franchise data, show that no previous entree has ever cracked the 1 million sales milestone. The closest thing is Armored Core 2 on PS2, which apparently shipped around 790,000 copies in its lifetime. With that in mind, you can see just how insane the Armored Core 6’s sales actually are.

It’s worth noting that back in October 2023, Rusty’s Japanese voice actor announced that the game had sold over 2.8 million copies, so the momentum has slowed significantly in the months since the game’s release. But even so, games like this with strong single-player campaigns and tons of replayability have proven to be able to maintain steady sales even years after release, so one can expect the numbers to slowly rise over the coming months. . Mind you, I didn’t expect it to be over 4 million.
This begs the question, why is Armored Core 6 selling so well compared to its predecessor? There are some obvious factors, such as FromSoftware’s popularity growing significantly after the release of the Dark Souls series and Elden Ring. The popularity of these games will definitely decline, especially since Armored Core 6 inherits some features from the aforementioned games. However, it’s worth noting that while Armored Core is a niche game, it’s a highly regarded series in the gaming community. In this day and age, good intentions, good memories and a strong track record can go a long way.
