Venezuelan fashion designer Carolina Herrera was honored yesterday (September 5) at the 37th Annual Hispanic Heritage Awards at the John F. Kennedy Center. A one-of-a-kind Barbie doll.
The doll, which Herrera wore to the New York City Ballet’s annual fall gala last October, wore a custom gown designed by Carolina Herrera creative director Wes Gordon.
“Carolina Herrera and Barbie are both synonymous with femininity,” Gordon said. “Last year, I had the pleasure of wearing one of my designs with Mrs. Herrera at the New York City Ballet Fall Gala, and in this way immortalizing the look in the iconic Herrera red and pink. Make it even more special.
The doll will appear in an exclusive @BarbieStyle Instagram editorial alongside two dolls wearing looks from Carolina Herrera’s Fall/Winter 2024 collection. Three fans will have the opportunity to own the dolls by bidding in the auction, with proceeds going to Solve Childhood Cancer, an organization dedicated to funding breakthrough treatments to cure children with pediatric cancer. The auction opens today (September 6th) and ends on Tuesday, September 10th.
“Barbie has always been a very special doll to all the girls I know,” Herrera said. “Many pieces have been created over the years to represent different versions of women and I hope that through our donation to Tackling Childhood Cancer, this piece will make a lot of kids happy.”
Barbie will also appear in the Carolina Herrera New York Fashion Week show on Monday, September 9th.
