Massive Game Freak leak appears to reveal Switch 2 codename, future Pokémon games, and more

Pokémon developer Game Freak suffered a massive hack and leaked a lot of behind-the-scenes details, including the Switch 2 codename.

Over the weekend, a massive leak of Game Freak data was shared in an unprecedented hack the company suffered, IGN reports. Although it is unclear the authenticity of the leaked content, it was later discovered that Game Freak had issued a statement confirming that the data leak occurred in August this year. Not only was a lot of Pokemon game information leaked, but also 2,606 employee details, including current employees, former employees, and contractors.

Game Freak also apologized to everyone affected and said it had rebuilt and inspected the hacked servers. The statement made no mention of leaks about past and future games, but acknowledging that leaks do occur seems likely to lend more legitimacy to the content.

One of the most notable aspects of the leak is that the Nintendo Switch 2 (or successor console as the company often calls it) is apparently codenamed “Ounce.” The codename for the yet-to-be-announced tenth-generation Pokemon game also appears to have been leaked, and other unannounced Pokemon games have also been mentioned. On top of that, a ton of details, development notes and concept art have been shared – it’s even more than that, there’s honestly so much to say.

Things have been pretty quiet overall for The Pokemon Company this year, having held just one Pokemon Presents this past February – that particular one showcased Pokemon Legends: ZA, the latest entry in the Legends series that takes players into the sixth-generation Kalos region . Pokémon Presents usually takes place in August, but not this year.
