Emmy Award-winning actor Mandy Patinkin (princess bride, home) has joined the cast of the NBC medical drama, smart mindalso called title PhD. Wolf. This series stars Zachary Quinto (hero, StarCraft), giving Patinkin a recurring role, and Steve Howie and Andre DeShields Showrunner Michael Grassi was announced Sunday at the Television Critics Association as a guest star. Howie and Patinkin will both appear in two episodes.
Patinkin will play a respected family physician who joins the staff at Bronx General Hospital and brings his “unconventional approach to the workplace.”
His passion for house calls and long-term relationships with patients earned the respect of our leader, Dr. Wolf, and established a mentor-like relationship between the two. He “literally rocked our world,” Grassi said.
Howie plays a “rugged motorcycle mechanic” who seeks help from Dr. Wolfe with a gunshot wound and is “forced to make a heartbreaking decision.” DeShields plays “an Alzheimer’s patient in a hospice facility” who is helped by Dr. Wolfe to reconnect with his family.
The show follows the work of legendary neuroscientist Dr. Oliver Wolfe. The main character is inspired by Dr. Oliver Wolfe SacksBritish neuroscientist and naturalist; many of his studies are documented in his nonfiction book, The man who mistook his wife for a hat and Anthropologist on Mars.
The most famous adaptation of Dr. Sacks’ novel is Awakeningthe Oscar-nominated film starring Robin Williams Dr. Malcolm Thayer.
