According to Apple leaker Mark Gurman, the next generation M4 Mac is coming soon. The first batch of M4 Macs will reportedly launch later this year (with several other groups due next year).
We got a sneak peek at the M4 chip when Apple launched it with the iPad Pro. This is the first time the Cupertino-based tech giant has launched M-series chips in iPads and then in Macs.

Why did Apple make this move? We’re not sure. Maybe Apple wants to let us know about the power of its laptops and computers before launching them. Based on the internal performance numbers we’ve obtained for the M4 iPad Pro, the M4 Mac may surprise us.
That being said, let’s take a look at all the leaks and rumors we’ve heard about all things Mac.
M4 MacBook Pro
Just like the M3 MacBook that debuted at last October’s “Scary Fast” event, we expect the following M4 MacBook models to launch this year:
-
14-inch MacBook Pro with M4 (cheapest)
-
14-inch MacBook Pro with M4 Pro
-
14-inch MacBook Pro with M4 Max
-
16-inch MacBook Pro with M4 Pro
-
16-inch MacBook Pro with M4 Max (most expensive)
Apple reports that M4 processor is 50% faster than M2 CPU, and rendering performance is improved by four times
M4 MacBook Pro release date
According to an April report from Gurman, the next-generation MacBook Pro will launch later this year. While he didn’t provide an exact date, it’s expected to arrive before the M4 MacBook Air, which is set to be released in spring 2025.

This is consistent with rumors from Ross Young, another well-known analyst. Young shared in a subscriber-only feed on X (formerly Twitter) that Apple fans can look forward to the release of the M4 MacBook Pro “later this year.”
Historically, Apple has held Mac events in October or November, so it’s likely that the new M4 MacBook Pro will be released during that time period. However, as BGR points out, October seems to be the most likely date.
Mix and match speed of light
According to Gurman, the entry-level M4 14-inch MacBook Pro will be released first, followed by new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models equipped with more powerful M4 Pro and M4 Max chips, possibly in late 2024 or early 2025.
M4 MacBook Pro design
There aren’t any design rumors about the M4 MacBook Pro yet, but major improvements seem unlikely. According to MacRumors, Apple plans to launch a MacBook equipped with a new OLED display in the future, but it is not expected to be launched until 2026.
M4 MacBook Air
According to Gurman, Apple is developing a new M4 MacBook Air model, but it won’t be released until next year.

The new 13.6-inch and 15-inch M4 MacBook Air models will likely launch sometime next spring.
M4 iMac
According to Gurman, the new M4 24-inch iMac, like the M4 MacBook Pro, is expected to be launched by the end of 2024

We don’t have any other details other than the date.
M4 Mac mini
We have some detailed details about the M4 Mac mini. It will be available in two configurations: M4 and M4 Pro, and is expected to launch in late 2024 or early 2025, according to Gurman.

While the Mac mini’s design may not change significantly, it will be significantly smaller. The Mac mini hasn’t had a major design update since 2010. The new model is expected to be the smallest desktop computer Apple has ever produced.
The case is reportedly about the same size as an Apple TV. Although the overall footprint of the M4 Mac mini is smaller, it is expected to be slightly taller than the current generation.
M4 Mac Studio
According to Gurman, the M4 Mac Studio will also be updated, but not until mid-2025.
M4 Mac Pro
April Burundi The previously mentioned report stated that the next-generation Mac Pro equipped with the M4 Ultra chip is expected to be launched in the second half of 2025.
