Before doing this review, I feel it’s important to disclose that I have not played the original 3DS version. Therefore, I won’t discuss many of the improvements, but rather from the perspective of a newbie to the game.
Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD It’s a solid game. Game play is similar Luigi’s Mansion 3 (my only previous experience with this series) so it felt familiar. My daughter puts in countless hours Luigi’s Mansion 3 able to pick up Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD No problem, and continuing to blaze a trail that I haven’t caught yet.
The story and gameplay are both fun, although I did have a hard time aiming for some reason, and the characters are as goofy as you’d expect. Luigi is almost always scared, but he still helps his friends when they need help, which is great.
Graphically, I believe Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD The goal of porting 3DS games to high-definition versions on Nintendo Switch was indeed achieved. Looks really good. Don’t expect to see Luigi’s Mansion 3 You might like it.
Another thing I really like is that sometimes you have to be really smart to solve the puzzles. Especially when dealing with spider webs. Sometimes you have to use the Poltergust 5000 to pull a suspended uvula-like mesh, and other times you need to grab a wad and light it.
Sometimes you have to vacuum up a corner of the carpet to find what you’re looking for. I know these elements sound very basic, but I think they’re well implemented and I love their inclusion.
Honestly, my biggest complaint is that the development team seems to have remade the port without including any quality of life upgrades. There is one in particular that I like. Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD There is no way to save the game other than completing the mission.
The tasks vary in time, with some taking less than 10 minutes and others taking over 20 minutes, and there’s no real way of knowing how long each task will take. If I start a mission and something goes wrong, I have to tell my family not to play on the Switch until I can start over (this did happen to my daughter), or I have to agree to start the mission over again.
I really hope they just implement it with Luigi’s Mansion 3 The location saved after entering a new room. This is a very good saving system. If they implemented a system where you could save partial tasks from the start menu or somewhere else, I’d be open to that too.
Another aspect I’m not a big fan of is how much treasure you need to acquire to unlock the Poltergust 5000 upgrade. So it often feels like I’m getting too little treasure, so it seems to take forever to unlock upgrades. I just wish it felt less rough.
It’s a pity that I don’t have any friends who have had this experience. Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD So I didn’t try ScareScraper. I will update this review if I check it out in the future.
Ultimately, Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD interesting. This is a solid HD port that I would recommend to friends and family. The game could really be improved with a slight tweak to the save system, but it’s still a lot of fun to play. It’s a bit of a shame that the original game probably won’t be ported to Switch, so we won’t be able to get the trilogy set.
