We’ve had some leaked images before, but with Skeleton Crew about 4 months away from being released on Disney+, Lucasfilm is slowly gearing up to market the next installment in the Star Wars franchise. They released a few official photos of the show and some basic information. “Skeleton Crew” was originally slated for release in 2023, but was delayed due to Bob Iger’s new content strategy. Shooting ended in January 2023, and the film has been shelved for some time. Click to see the picture!
I have a bad feeling about this…
Yes, I know it’s a fad these days to criticize all things Star Wars on Disney+. But the leaked trailer already gives off a strange vibe, for example, it looks like “Earth,” as if there were cars on the streets of whatever planet the kids were on.
You can tell they’re leaning heavily into the 1980s children’s movie Skeleton Crew.
This is the same scene as in the leaked photo, just slightly different. We can tell that the kid playing Max Rebbe Jr. was partly CGI. What I originally thought was a rehearsal scene turned out to be a live performance…
Did this also cost 180 million? You might think this is a low-budget production based on CGI quality and batch work:
The shot of the two kids riding on the sidecar looks terrible. We say the rear-projection studio shots of the 1950s were terrible, and you didn’t believe for one second that the actors were actually there. It almost looks like something out of a video game. If this is the volume, and it does look like this, then they really need to tweak the process, it’s just as bad as the rear projection of old. This looks really, really bad.
Steven Spielberg wants his walkie-talkies back…
The only thing missing here is the ET riding shotgun. It’s easy to see what they were aiming for, but it just didn’t say “Star Wars.” It says “ET” and has a weird blue alien kid on it. And a walkie-talkie? Really? Couldn’t they at least give them a proper lady razor like in The Phantom Menace?
We Now Have 1970s Flashlights in Star Wars…
We have Home Depot metal detectors at The Acolyte. Now we have readily available (as far as I know) flashlights. Because, you know, any children’s movie from around the 1980s has them using walkie-talkies and flashlights. Again, I understand what they were going for, but it does look like The Goonies or Aliens, not Star Wars.
Here is the official synopsis:
“When four children make a mysterious discovery on their seemingly safe home planet, they become lost in a strange and dangerous galaxy,” reads the show’s official synopsis. “Finding a way home, Encountering unexpected allies and enemies will be an adventure greater than they imagined.”
“Skeleton Crew” also has several child actors, and the four leading actors are Ravi Cabot-Conyers (Wim), Kiriana Kratt (KB), Robert Timothy Smith (Neel ) and Ryan Kira Armstrong (Fern).
“Skeleton Crew” will be released on December 3rd.
what do you think? This looks like Stranger Things – Star Wars Edition. Just five years too late.
Credible leakers (Making Star Wars and Bespin Bulletin) report behind-the-scenes issues. Apparently Lucasfilm didn’t know what to do with the show, plans obviously changed during filming and the end result wasn’t what anyone expected or was overly satisfied with. According to these reports, test screening (internal) was not well received.
I have a dull feeling that this might be a bigger failure than The Acolyte. I really hope this show is good. Also, since the four kids are the stars here, it’s important for them not to get caught in the crossfire, they’re just kids and they’ll do whatever the director and writers tell them to do.
According to co-showrunner Jon Watts, Jude Law also mentored the kids and was their co-acting coach, which makes sense since Jude Law Jude Law has extensive experience. About Jude Law: His character’s name has also been revealed, and he plays Jordyn Wood. I personally prefer the name Bob Loblaw because Ron Howard has a great relationship with Disney and he would definitely agree.
But what do you think? Do the photos from the scene make you feel optimistic? Or do you think it will be a disaster?
For Hasbro’s sake, I hope they don’t have to support this show with any toys. Absolutely not.
It’s going to be a long, dark winter. Unless you live in Australia or New Zealand.
