With only two episodes left in “Power Book II: Ghosts,” the drama is building.
As the series draws to a close, the two characters embark on two very different journeys.
Against his mother’s wishes, Drew Tejada joins forces with the cunning Detective Carter to forge his own path. Then there’s Brayden, who went through a rough patch in the final season, with his latest relationship falling apart when he let his anger get the best of him.
Drew has made a decision for himself, and as his actor, the ever-candid Lovell Adams Gray, shared with us, he’s working with Detective Carter with a bigger plan in mind.
“I think Drew is trying to carve out a path for himself and protect his family in the way that he thinks is best,” Adams-Gray said when asked about what drives Drew at this point in the story.
“I think it was through Carter. You know, keeping Carter close. He was the enemy, but there was a certain mutual destruction there, right? Carter definitely didn’t want to be exposed by these criminals.
“In a way, Carter needs criminals to make sure he gets what he needs. I think Dru understands that as long as we stay consistent and bide our time, everyone will get what they want. But he’s trying to play the long game. .
While Drew may want to protect his family now, that won’t always be the case in the final season.
“He didn’t get what he wanted, right?” Adams-Gray responded when asked why it took him a while to be willing to work with his family (i.e. Monet) again.
“For a long time, Drew didn’t get what he wanted. He wanted Monet to admit that she was a problem, and all this trauma, first in the game, was her ambition and her not really listening to the kids. a direct result of the space.
“So the fact that she was able to acknowledge that and try to turn things around showed Drew that, okay, maybe there’s potential for reconnection and change.”
In Power Book II: Ghosts Season 4 Episode 8, we see the conflict between Dru and Cane being as contentious as ever. But Adams-Gray doesn’t think any hope of Drew and Kane finding common ground is lost.
When asked if he believed the brothers could find a way to coexist again, Adams Gray responded, “You know, I’m sensitive to brotherhood.” “Brotherhood always has the opportunity to reconnect and come together. So, This is me.
“I definitely don’t think anything has been done or said that completely eliminates the possibility of them reconnecting. I do see room or potential for them.
Adams Gray had similar sentiments about Drew and Monáe’s relationship, believing there’s still hope for them.
“The simple fact that he protected her and made sure Carter told the truth and made sure no one was killed is a testament to that,” Adams-Gray said. “Drew wanted to make sure the family stayed together as much as possible, but he Just do it your own way.”
The series may be coming to an end as we enter its final hours, but Drew still has a lot to do before all is said and done.
Drew is weaving an interesting web, and he has a lot of action left. Adams-Gray told us, “You’re going to see a lot of strategic decisions. Dru falls down and gets dirty. There’s also some fighting, which I love. In fact, that’s my favorite part, getting to fight.
“I love fighting. But yes, only Dru continues down this path, which explains why Papi chose him to take over the family business in the first place, he is cool-headed and able to calculate and think several steps ahead.
Brayden and Drew haven’t had much interaction since the early days of Book II: Ghosts season 4, as their paths have diverged.
Just as Drew had his family problems, so did Brayden, whose family kicked him out of the family entirely, leaving him alone: Tariq.
This bond between Brayden and Tarik has been tested many times throughout their history, and it continues into this season.
Gianni Paolo, who plays Brayden, had an interesting take on the two when asked how it affected Brayden being ostracized by his family and having Tarik become the only stable person in his life.
There’s a lot to deal with for Brayden.
“It’s a little difficult because Tarik loves what he does so much,” says the charismatic Paul. “Braeden even said in that episode, I believe it was the Season 5 finale of Thrones, that he said, ‘This is how I cope,’ or ‘This is my escape.’
“He made it clear that’s why he took cocaine. Bury it like the rest of us do,” Tariq said. “I feel like Tarik has more experience in this area. He’s been doing this for years.
“He’s had this experience with Kenan, he’s been through all these different levels and situations, and Brayden, this is his first rodeo, and he doesn’t know how to handle it yet.
“So he’s still young. That’s what he’s dealing with right now. He’s also a college student. We never see him in class, but he’s a college student.
“But I also feel like it’s a tool to make Brayden darker, right? Because if he went into a trap house and blew people’s heads off, you’d be like, ‘Wow, that doesn’t make any sense.’ “
“But you see him start to unhinge and become disoriented; it’s a way to make the character darker and the way you want him to appear in a series like this. Because obviously, we saw Brayden’s starting point.
“He was a boarding school lacrosse student and now you see him trapping houses and blowing people’s heads off. You need those things to happen to him in a slow and organic way.
Brayden has had a few love interests throughout the series, and this season he fell in love with Elle, which was exactly the relationship Brayden needed.
When asked about the relationship and what it means to Brayden, Paul responded: “I think it’s about having another person to talk to.” “Brayden is a lover boy and I think until this season I Just realized this.
“Obviously, we watched season one with Riley. Season two, no girlfriends. In season three, we saw Keke-Elle in season four. I think Brayden is kind of there now Lover boy too.
“He found a girl and said, ‘This is my girl for this season.'” And then, obviously, it was always going to be ruined.
After Elle kicked him out of the hospital room, and with the ongoing animosity between him and Tariq, Brayden’s story should have an interesting ending.
When asked about the series finale and Brayden’s story, Paul was candid.
“They say the power never ends, so I think there will be more spin-offs. I believe that’s the end of Brayden’s story, whether he lives or dies. But I think they’re going to do some cool stuff. They There’s always going to be different shows and content to satisfy fans, right? So I’m excited to see where it goes.
“I want to see the Ghost and Tommy prequel. I’m excited to see that. That’s what I’m excited about.
