Mobile Suit Gundam is a groundbreaking mecha anime series created by Yuki Tomino that debuted in 1979. The story takes place in a future era called the “Cosmic Century,” during a brutal conflict between the Earth Federation and the Principality of Zeon, a space colony seeking independence.
Zeon uses advanced mobile suits, humanoid fighting machines piloted by soldiers, to gain the upper hand in the war. The story follows a young boy, Amuro Ray, who finds himself piloting the Earth Federation’s prototype mobile suit RX-78-2 Gundam after the Zeon army attacks his colony.
Throughout the series, Amuro battles the highly skilled Zeon ace Char Aznable, exploring the psychological toll war takes on its characters and exploring the harsh realities that drive them to fight and survive.
I love the Sweet Tooth series, but Gundam is a completely different beast, and I hope he has what it takes to tell an epic, visually stunning story.
